Pulled logs are silver and sugar maple, black birch, sassafras and hickory. Sleepers are white oak I think. Easy cut today. Should get it all split too. I couldn't reach the top and wasn't about to climb up there. I could've tried to be king of the mountain, but not king of the ER! Yes I'm loving the less time factor. Chasing around scores is fun, but can really wear on me. The other place fizzled out. I've contacted him a few times but he is having chronic labor problems with running the splitter. Plenty of rounds on hand that need to get split.
I have in the past offered to work part time for him and did extend a hand asking what I can do in return. I'm thinking he's just glad to have the wood gone. If you saw his burn pile yesterday you would've Envision half of what we cut on Pond Hill burning as full logs.
Yes. I was glad just have the source for rounds. Very easy going guy and I'm sure he'd let me do that. It will be easier (I think) to sort wood moving rounds. Gonna try to load and split off the truck when I can. Once he has an area for me it will evolve into an easier way.
Wow! Just an awesome set up. You deserve it after all the hustling you have done over the years. Saves you money but more imprtantly time.
Good for you, that is a sweet set up. However, I have some questions. I saw in another recent post, someone said you don't burn/heat with firewood, which I just assumed you did as you ae so knowledgeable about the process, different woods, etc. Questions are: 1. Is this true? 2. If so, why? 3. Am I the only one in FHC that did not know this?
It's an open secret of sorts. I'll speak for myself but there's no way I could work as hard as Brad does making firewood just to sell it all. I need to sit back and enjoy the blazing heat from my labor to make it fully worth it for me.
Yes! Ok, so 2 of yas then. Facts...waaay too much work scrounging just to sell... especially at the prices seen around here!
I do believe Brad has let out that little detail a time or two in other threads... Sounds weird for someone to cut and sell so much wood and not burn, but I used to do the same thing before moving into this house. When you do that, that's when you know you're one of the REAL CRAZY ones!
1. yes its true. 2. No stove or fireplace in our house, but a lifetime of burning prior to living here since 2010. 3. Good question. The cat was let out of the bag recently in another thread. Several knew before that and I'm not proud of the fact.
You're doing really well catching up to me though! Do you think you would've started selling wood had I not sent that lead your way?
I already had my CL ad out and made a couple deliveries last year when you referred that guy to me. I will say though, between last year’s sales and this year’s, I’m no longer on the 3 year (ready to burn) plan. So next winter I doubt I’ll be selling much of anything. Too much to keep up with on top of home life and working 6 days a week.
