Gracious goodness! This was as heavy a load as I’ve had on the truck! Crawled home with it before dumping. Trying to get a good amount at the house so when things begin to thaw, I’ve got a good stash of rounds for splitting. Probably get another load tomorrow.

Been a good frozen ground Winter here as well. I'd like to see it extend to months end but with the snow tonight it wont seem to matter as I cant make firewood anyhow.

 

Does not look like fun loading that thing. Guessing unloading is a breeze.

 

Only loading I had to do today was the bigger rounds onto the back tailgate. My son and daughter did the in-truck organization. A nice break from doing it myself. Love having them along for the help and more importantly, the company!

 

I think as much as 5/3 cord, but probably more like 4/3 cord. As far as ground conditions, It’s been the best winter in quite a few years for making firewood here. My sales has extended further in the season than it typically does, so I’m getting a bit of a late start. You’re always getting something done whether it’s firewood or something else. Been following your firewood storage project. That’ll sure add some much needed storage. Really turning out good

50/50 mix of beech and black birch. He couldn't stack it right away so some painters plastic sheeting to the rescue. Several inches of snow forecasted for my area tonight.

Yesterday's loads . 1 cord on the trailer . Close to 1.5 on the truck . In the log lengths. The Birch on the trailer goes in my shed. The spruce on the truck is for sale.

 

Thanks. Yeah i knew he'd be wanting another load and waits til the last minute and sure enough he texts yesterday morning. He gets 4-5 loads per season. I wanted to beat the snow and had time so I talked him into a full load.

Probably the last load for this truck before it moves on to another owner. It’s been a reliable workhorse for me the last 14 years.

Sorry to see the old truck go. Hopefully some fond memories of hauling wood with it.

Been tossing around the thought of upgrading myself, maybe something in spring is in order.

Oh yeah, any tips that you'd like to pass along to buZZsaw BRAD about how to keep a tailgate in great shape?

 

235,101 miles as of yesterday. It looks the part, has all the normal Chevy rust. There’s only been two times when it let me down, both of those were from blowing a brake line. There’s only first brake line blew on my in laws freshly paved driveway, which was convenient for me but left some nice stains on the new pavement for a while. The second one was more exciting because it happened while trying to slow down for a turn that came up pretty quickly. Conveniently the E-brake kinda sorta worked once and then the release cable snapped so I was totally without brakes until I could get it parked and wait for a tow truck. I knew the rest of the lines needed replaced but did not get to them fast enough, lesson learned.

I got it’s replacement a couple months ago, still a half ton but in much better shape and with more space inside

 

Mine just went over 200k miles. Owned it 7.5 years and had intended for it to go seven years. Still runs good and hauls lots of wood so i will use it until it dies.

 

You have plenty of back-up saws, but I'd start looking for a back-up truck. If you get caught on the side of the road in a dead truck with a load of locust, you'll want the replacement truck handy so that locust doesn't get stolen...
