Agreed! I'm sure we could get a DIY system checked off and too pass. I just don't want the hassle. Too much other work to do like the kitchen remodel.

My panel placement has done great today. From 10:00 am on to 2:00 PM I've averaged about 500 watts(2kw). Current input is still over 470 watts. I should get real close to 3Kw today and still have the battery at close to 70%. With a storm coming in tomorrow I'll save that JIC we need it.

Doesn't sound like much, But that's about $0.93 off todays bill. If I could keep that up I'll get around $28.00 off the monthly bill. I should be able to double that with the next power station with the larger solar input of 3KW per hour instead of the measly 700 watts of the current power station. Wish these power stations could collect more solar. I'd like to be closer to 5000 watts an hour.

Got after the stove floor protector a bit ago and finished cementing the tiles to the frame/pad
1/2 thick tiles are sweet to work with....Very robust....
We are still thrashing out the final details on this project.....But the battery backup is falling further behind with each passing day....
I have not found any really sound reason cost wise and reliability wise to go that way.

I can see a UPS to allow a clean smoke free shutdown during a power outage, but a time frame of 24 to 72 hours of heating is just out of my budget and I am still very skeptical of long term reliability...

I am really wanting a zero maintenance setup during the off season and when the need arises be able to stoke up a fire in a few minutes and have heat....

We have been lucky with our generator these past few years....I run it out of fuel after each use and so far have had no issues......In years past we had little generators that when you needed them would not run.

To be very honest.. With all the options we are looking at I find very little "Warm and fuzzy" feelings with any of them......

The gravity stove comes the closest .....Still the wild variations of reviews on any of the choices just drives me crazy..
How many reviews are just BS made by people who did not read instructions and or are just not willing to deal with a small amount of adversity ......

Complaints vary from just plain WHAAAAAAAAAAT were they thinking to....YOU have got to be kidding me...
Then there is the one that says....."I need to keep the battery charged....Or ..."I have to light the fire with a torch"
How did these clowns make it through puberty ????? ARRRRRRGH

That map looks ominous to say the least...

    WELL NOW
I just pulled the trigger on a new Wiseway stove.

    Ordered it from Home Depot
We have a H D 6 miles from the ranch.....I decided not to pursue a used one for $700 that is 150 mile drive round trip.

Guy said he was not negotiable on the $$$$$
We get a military discount at the Depot.....Price was $964 Not worth the time and trouble to fool with a used unit and no real history.
Plus....if we get there and it turns out to be a POS ....Nope....New is better.

The plan is to get the stove set in place and the chimney dialed in....(Going to use a 4 bolt flange on the chimney to allow easy disconnect.

Then.....Take the beast out on the deck and build a ripping azz fire in the thing and burn off the stinking paint outside....

    I will do that....BLOW BY BLOW:D
I am cautiously optimistic of the choice...
As most here know I have been flirting with this plan for a couple years or so....
The recent breakdowns of two stoves all within a few days sort of jabbed me in the butt....
Hard to get interested in pellet stoves in summer time.....

We should see the new beast in a week or so....
Then we need to get it into the house and sitting on the pad.....
    Next comes planning the vent.
The stove must sit in front of a window and the vent pipe needs to lean to the left (Facing the wall) and go up from the stove to align with the spot in the wall that has a clear shot out and up.....

    One step at a time.....

Congrats, it is always exciting to get a new stove. And I agree, the agrevation isn't worth the $200 difference between used and new (especially at 75 miles away - your time is worth more than that). I hope it works out well for you!

Super interested in how this turns out. I think you will have good luck with it. Most problems like many a pellet stove are due to not keeping them clean. Which won't be an issue for you.

    Thanks B
    Me too.......

I started moving the floor protector last night after dinner.
Decided to move the corner table and scoot the stove over so the chimney vent can go up on a 45 degree angle then another 45 where the pipe connects to the "Through the wall section" Going to use the 4 bolt quick connector flanges at the stove and the wall thimble area.....This will make the install a walk in the park...

Getting the corner table relocated will give a nice corner spot to stack several bags of pellets :D

    Pics
    Table in the corner
Floor protector pad needs to move to the right about another 18" + or -
Blue tape on the wall is the area where the vent can pass out between studs.....
Center of the chimney will end up about 10" down from the ceiling ...

The protector is HEAVY ....I had to use a hydraulic jack pushing against the Raised hearth the Big Whit is on......Saves the back ya know....30 tiles 6" x 6" x 1/2" thick plus the 31" x 48" steel frame and a piece of 3/4" exterior plywood in the frame.

Not sure what it all weighs....but really tough to shove it....Hence the jack.....
The center of the pad needs to be close to the center of the distance between the edge of that picture and the edge of the window trim.....
We will get the pad close to location...then get the stove set on the pad so the setbacks are within specs ...Then do the final location of the vent....I want to use one single straight section of pellet vent plus a 45 on each end to get the interior pipe constructed...Add the connector flanges and we can then get the exact location of the vent center through the wall....
The Valance curtains will need to go....They are a leftover from a couple room makeovers ago and have outlived their usefulness.....Plus the color clashes with most everything else in the room....
My daughter picked that hideous green when she was just out of high school....She is 42 now....

Will need to see what can be done to spiff up the area after the stove is in.

The safety concerns are the biggy .....

I am not an expert in the field of interior decoration......NOT EVEN.....If it is clean safe and warm....I'm good...:D

    Hate propane....

    Yes
Far too many people just do not understand pellet stoves and or anything to do with such mundane things as DRAFT.....

I have read far too many miserable reviews that the Wiseway has no way to clean the ash out.
OPEN THE Burn chamber...Masking tape the draft adjuster holes....Stick in the leaf blower and tape the blower to keep any ash from getting in the room and let that bad boy howl.....
That vent will be clean really quick .

Then build a fire that's Hotter than Hell fire and dammation to take care of any creosote than might form.....

I think a clean out before the final tall rise outside would be good....A long chimney brush rod will deal with any issues.

Just gotta run these bad boys....Hold their hand a bit now and again.......I am thinking that I may get some pine pellets...They burn HOT

After a few cups of coffee it was time to move stuff.
Got the corner table to it's new home.....
NOW....After breakfast the stove pad can get shoved to a spot fairly close.

I do need to get a length of baseboard trim and get it into place....I added the one piece from the raised hearth over towards the corner a few years ago....But ran out of the stuff and just left things go....Figured we would deal with it later.....Later is here now.....
With that corner table out of my way.....We can get to work....

I am getting excited now.....With the tile laid down to the pad, the stove actually on order and real progress happening.....Woooo Hoooooo.....And the adventure continues.....:D:D

Not the greatest solar day. But this was taking at 10 am this morning(I started it around 8 am). I expect it to gain a little more when the sun gets higher(if the sun stays out). Pulling in nearly as much as its using. Top number right is solar just below is usage or AC out. It pulls a bit more ac out when the furnace fires up!! Just trying to run the battery down so it will capture what it can today instead of wasting it. Save some for tomorrows storm JIC. I'll cut the ac out around 1 PM and save the last capture to recharge the battery if it all stays like so.
