The loggers started dad's woods last week. All oak. About 50 trees. Mostly white, black and chestnut oak. Only 4 red oak. Leaving all the tops and taking only saw logs. I used almost a gallon of fuel on the first white oak top. Logger says usually about 2 cords per top with trees this size.

Holy cow that's a lot of tops. :bug: Gonna keep you busy and in oak for a long time.

Why the "beaver" type cut on one of the logs? Last pic in OP

Even the tops are good diameter! How tall were those trees? Terrific score there.

Not quite sure but it's more of an optical illusion from cutting the flare off the base.

Probably in the 50-75 foot range. The faller said they were some of the bigger trees he has cut in our area.

We worked up one white oak top that had fallen in the field. Trying to get a game plan as to what goes where. Sorting by species. Only 49 tops to go. 20250222_113805.jpg 20250222_113811.jpg 20250222_113743.jpg
