Why do you need 12 amp? Higher amps does not mean more power or suction.

    And from this site:

    upload_2023-5-22_4-51-24.png

Of course you could totally need 12 amps for some other reason - but just had to research since it sounded odd to me.

My old Kenmore Intuition canister, which I brought from my old house (and I'd had for a couple of years then) is still going strong. It was made for people with pets. But, I don't live in your challenging conditions, nor do I have additional people making even more dust/dirt.

EDIT: I had my old receipt on pdf - OMG that thing was expensive at $510 (on sale back in 2011). However, I remember we had gone thru three $100-150 vacs in as many years, so this one was a bargain for how long it has lasted (KOW that I didn't just jinx myself).

Your suspicion is correct, husband wants 12A because he associates that with better suction. I ended up youtubing last night and found what you posted about water lift. Common ones narrowed down quickly for features I'd like then what I won't buy again to a Kenmore Intuition. Not sold on it though, it looks like exactly what we have now except bagged instead of cup (the purple color is a lot less than other colors)

I have a feeling it's not the same class as your older Intuition canister, nor the Kenmore brand we knew and trusted... It's like the refrigerator I bought a few years ago, exact same model with a different brand on the front depending on what store sells it.

I actually did find quiet shop vac like vacuum for inside a house, of course it's $300-$500. I might bite on this. (sound comparison at 7:20)

You are probably correct - my old "real" Kenmore is probably better than what is called Kenmore today.

Well, we decided on the quiet "indoor" shop vac, I'll check back after I road test it a bit. Fingers crossed on this kind, especially since it was expensive.

Well, this seems to be a great fit for us! A little red "Henry" vacuum (the quiet indoor shop vac one). Husband went to town with the soft dust brush along extension arm on his hunting mounts :) I'm not used to dragging around a canister around but it was awesome to suck up dried mud chunks the dog and the husband bring in. And some stray pellet stove pellets and straw pieces from grass and chickens and glittered kinetic sand kid dropped and tons of other stuff I would have stopped and leaned down to pick up. None of it clogged the vac. This is a big cool deal for where we live now :)

I remember this being a major household purchase by my parents back in the day. I think it went a couple decades and was abandoned not because it did not work, but due to cost of the bags it took as they became less common.

We had something similar...a Royaluxe maybe? It probably still works if its still around.
Heck I was in my parents garage the other day and noticed that the freezer out there is still the same one we had when I was a kid...that thing is from the 70's, at least!

My childhood was an Electrolux, round steel bullet shaped canister. It was cool, on side would suck for vac and the other side would blow.

I agree except why can't they design a vacuum that stands up? We are on our third and every one falls over unless we do the "stand up dance". Otherwise, they are great.

Ha! That is one my husbands complaints too, regardless of the brand, uprights tipped over reaching with the hose and even when it wasn't clicked just the right way for standing or walked by and looked at it the wrong way.

stand ups won't stand up and pull alongs like to find their own path (which usually means into door jambs, furniture etc). It's the one you can live with easier.

I've killed a couple of stand ups by them taking a tumble by themselves, and none lasted more than a couple of years. Jeeze, just try parking it in upright position to pick up something was an adventure in making sure it didn't' attack me by unlatching and dropping the handle/bag part, or the whole thing just falling over. The last one, for good measure, I launched off the deck into the retaining wall made of boulders. I wanted to make sure it stayed dead.

Pull alongs irritate me, but they last a long time for me. My current one (12 year old Kenmore) has taken a few rolling tumbles down the stairs (usually my fault as I push the limits of the suction tube), but it just shrugs that abuse off. Maybe by the time it dies someone will have made a nice canister that is battery driven so the cord doesn't get in my way (not a shop vac type).

Well, the Henry indoor shop vac is not great on our area rugs. Great little vac that takes abuse regarding what we vac up, but 1/2 our floor is area rugs. So I'm back to bagged upright. And bogieb , looking at a Kenmore Intuition.

I like Dysons but they are heavy and very expensive. Have 2, my wife has the house one and I have a 20 year old one I use to vacuum the floor in the shop, basement, and garage.

I have tried many of the popular brands of uprights with mixed results. Consumer grade is just not built to last anymore. My latest, I searched for a commercial type upright reasonably priced. I settled on a Sanitaire Commercial Quiet Clean bagless.(SC5700) With two indoor dogs, bagless works best for me as I would go broke buying bags. I purchased this one from a wholesaler on line for $200 shipped, box was damaged but everything was there and it works great. Powerful suction, relatively quiet, long cord(no auto wind), and it seems to be built well.

Just seeing this thread. At first glance and thought, amazed there's 4 pages on vacuums!

We have 2 vacuum that are ok, nothing special. But has anyone ever seen a vacuum system that is plumbed into the house? When I was in Australia, I became pretty good friends with one of my classmates, and went to his house (parents) a couple times. They had 'pirts' in the wall. Had a long vacuum hose that they would take and plug into the 'port'. I had never seen anything like it, amazed this redneck. I only saw one or two, but I think they had them spaced around the house in various rooms/hallways for coverage. I'm not sure what the workings were behind the scene.

    Sorry for the tangent....

I was in an older beach house rental in Cali in 1991'ish, there was one there. I was useless for the sand, and most the house was old long shag.

I like a Nutone central vac in the basement , although it is nice to have a little stick vac to spot clean a small spill to save putting the central vac hose away. A constant fail I've seen with central vacs was a very poor pipe install-full of leaks affecting the suction.
