I believe that if I were buying firewood, I would buy (4) 1/4 cords.

Maybe we're :loco: , but we charge more for a cord than 3 - 1/3 cord loads...
If they want a truck load, set tote on truck and go...last year for a cord, it was pull wood from shed, drop on conveyor, load dump trailer and then go. They don't mind the price when they see that big pile.

Seems odd and about 100$ high for a cord around here

New math. But I would do something similar if I sold by the cord (which I don't). It would take 3 trips for me to deliver so the cost would be quite a bit more.

This is funny! So this actually isn't the craziest way to do things, it's probably just a reflection of his own system. I can relate, I sell a small amount of wood each year, anywhere between 2 and 10 cords. Just to keep me in bar oil and new saws. I don't sell large quantities for a cheaper price because the labor to produce is the sane no matter how much wood is in question. The smallest amount I sell is a quarter face, and I charge double that for a half face, x4 for a face cord, etc. So it doesn't increase like the guy in the ad, it just indexes with the quantities.
All that being said, it is definitely easiest to deliver a quarter face or half face because it fits in my small truck bed and doesn't take long to load up and unload. The larger the quantity the more of a pain it is to deal with, like for anything over a face cord I have to hook up a trailer, maybe make multiple trips...etc. If this guy is in the same boat maybe he is charging more for large quantities because it takes him more effort to get it to the customer. As long as he is making green doing it, I say good for him!

Im like that. I originally started out selling half cords to casual burners and they are still my ideal customers. I don't offer a discount for buying more. Same price for a half cord whoever you are.

Haha that doesn't make sense, unless he's shorting people on the 1/4.
