"Feels good to have a clear view of the fire."

I remember when I was a little boy, growing up in our tiny house in Evergreen. We had this old, rolled steel wood stove. It didn't have a viewing window. It had two, outward swinging, solid steel doors. Every night during winter, my dad would open the stove doors and sit in his chair and watch the fire in the dark. Sometimes with a beer. Sometimes with a cup of tea. Sometimes with nothing. I loved to crawl up in his lap and watch the fire with him. He has always been a man of very few words. I remember asking him why he opened the doors on the stove every night. He told me - "When you get older, and spend some time on your own, you will learn to appreciate the company of a fire."

My dad's parents both died before his 18th birthday. He was on his own at 17.

I think about that every night.

5 degrees F right now and headed for below zero, overnight. Lots of snow on the ground.
74 F inside. Burning Lodgepole Pine.

    Stay warm, friends.

    Love, Cash

Brr! Blowing through pellets recently, wood stove augments during winds. Grateful it's fairly calm tonight.

    -1/68

I fired up at bedtime and regretted it all throughout the night. It was -5 with winds. Then, the clouds moved in, winds died, and temps gained a little. 72 is just too much for an overnight temp. Dogs were restless all night long.

Yours play hard too it appears. Mine beat the snot out of each other. They go from that to sitting by choice together on the same couch. Butt to butt or even resting their heads on each other to sleep.

The amount of energy they run off outside chasing each other, stealing the dog log from each other, playing tag, hide and seek, stalking, it's insane. They sure keep each other good company.

    14° out 69°, inside. Yes I rechooched.

3 year seasoned honey locust and ash in the quadrafire

Yeah they will run around at like 100% for about 10-15 minutes straight and then come in and sleep together or lay next to each other and nibble each other. The black and white one will stalk the other one all the time she thinks she's so clever. They caught a mouse the other day and we're throwing it around and playing catch with it lol.
