Found this on Marketplace, paid $400. Was never fired and inside a barn for a long time. it’s rusty but no warpage. Some stones are deteriorating and gaskets are toast. Years ago I tore down a Keystone so I’m going to tackle this one and either sell it or install in my cabin.
Started taking her apart. Bolts are coming out easily. Removed the cat scoop and bypass housing. They’re all in decent shape. The top frame that holds the top stones is going to have to be replaced. I may just replace all the outside stones, they don’t look so good.
I can take my figure nail and scrape it off. It’s kind a wavy in spots and flaking off. I don’t know how much the replacement stones are, maybe I’ll find out tomorrow from Woodstock.
I rebuilt a Fireview 10-12 yr ago and I rubbed the stones down with some 0000 steel wool. That cleans them up nicely. You might give that a shot before deciding on replacing them.
Thanks I tried that but most are beyond steel wool. It’s almost like it’s wet chalky flakey deteriorating. I shouldn’t be able to dig my finger nail into it and scape it off. I am working with Woodstock to get a list of what I need. I just about have her stripped down. Having trouble removing the four rods that run up and down the corners that hold the stones and frames together.
It’s a threaded rod with nut on the bottom of the stove on all four corners. When I put a wrench on them I can turn them about a quarter turn and they want to spring back. Not sure why this is but I’m waiting on a reply from WS to see if I can just cut them off and replace. Didn’t want to risk breaking something if I really tork it.
Well I got two of those threaded rods loose and snapped the other two off. May as well replace all four. woodstock is getting my order together. They said the stones are anywhere from $15-50. I don’t think that’s too bad at all.
Had to lay her on her down to get access to those tie rods so I went ahead and wire wheeled and painted the bottom.
Nice. I rebuilt a 201 model Fireview 8 years ago and am sitting by it as I type this. Great stoves! Woodstock does a great job w keeping parts available and they're very helpful w questions. Fairview fireplace install question
Totally taken apart now. I dropped the flue collar assembly and broke it so there’s another cost. Gonna start working on the iron while I wait for parts.
