It's sad, but at least it was an old building in poor condition that wasn't serving much purpose besides a relic of the past. The bright red building next door was pretty much it's replacement, a working museum of sorts. I think it may have suffered window damage, but the structure itself was not seriously damaged that I know for. I'll probably be there to see it in person this weekend.

Yeah the sad part is that with some proper management, this out of control fire would have been mostly preventable.

    Frustrating day at work.

I was given a problem to solve 6 months ago and advised to do "ABC"...it's easy and solves 90% of the problem for almost no money. I was promptly told I was wrong, "ABC" is too simple and should explore doing "XYZ" using AI. I told them "XYZ" could potentially be a good idea, but it only exists in theory, isn't supported by the market, and if we did want to develop that tech it is going to be very expensive and would never work until you do "ABC" first.

6 months of looking into different ways to approach "XYZ", shocker...all very expensive and/or don't exist yet. Today was given direction to do "ABC" and forget about doing "XYZ" entirely.

I hope this is my last AI project for a while. Some people like the wild west of new tech, startups, etc. I just want to make furniture and firewood...but it doesn't pay nearly as good.

I feel bad for anyone effected by wildfires, but I've always struggled with not letting a place that nature desperately wants/needs a periodic burn...to burn periodically.

You mean during a rainy period with fire lines and low wind.. preventative burns; instead of trying to fight it with 100 mile an hour winds in a dry spell..
    not residents fault… PPP

Exactly. Burn it on your terms. But you still have to burn it.

There is no management out here. Everything is left to grow and grow and grow until we get an uncontrollable fire. Land used to be grazed, ranchers used to brush their land to increase grass land, forests used to be cut. Controlled burns used to be a thing. Now that's all considered "bad".

We're all good here. We have plenty of everything.

Low teens tonight, and a cow looking like she's going to calve at any time. I rolled out a bunch of hay in a low place in hopes that she'll use it for bedding if needed.

I hope everyone stays safe. Those are horrible fires from what I've seen on the news. So sad for everyone. Crazy that people had to abandon cars and walk out, I'm assuming because they couldn't see thru the smoke. An unimaginable horror right now.

I had heard the reason that cars were abandoned is because of congestion/accidents.

Whether you're in a car or on foot, you still can't see through the smoke.

    Not a fun time.

I wonder if California will now consider preventive measures? Maybe they'll get insurance carriers to offer fire insurance once more?

    Or funding restored for FD's?

And hire employees based on merit?

    So many questions.........

Gotta stop by the grocery store then go to a dentist appt this morning. Supposed to snow tomorrow so the grocery store might be a zoo, but you wouldn't think so in the AM. Tonight I'm sure it will be a chit show.

Apparently DEI and LGBTQ were the priorities for hiring with the fire chief.

Caffeine going in. Slept in until 7:30! o_O Huh? Got up at 4 and put some firewood in the Wood Gun, which has been doing a great job of keeping everything warm. Then went back to bed.

So far, son’s house is still there. Just luck. Because down the road in both directions, homes and businesses have burned right to the ground. My younger son was invited out there while he was on college break for a week vacation. He went out and had a great time with his big brother, his family, and sister-in-law’s family. Returned home just the other day, on Sunday. Then the fires happened. Daughter-in-law told him the Italian Restaurant they ate in a few days ago has burned down. Along with a LOT of other businesses and homes.

It is awful out there. When those winds pick up, which they seem to do in winter it gets bad. However, this is probably the worst ever. We pray for thast family and all others being affected by these fires.

Because of where it is taking place. Inevitable and measures could have been taken to prevent/lessen such an event.

Daily prayers are also offered from here.

Time doesn't come with any guarantee of tomorrow. That whole state needs a huge wake-up call.

The only thing that MIGHT wake them up would be if that earthquake happened where they fell in the Pacific but i have my doubts.
