Installed a new wood stove at my buddy’s place today. Took in the vicinity of 1 inch off the legs to fit it.
Before I take too much credit, I should say I assisted in the installation. I didn't do any of the heavy lifting.
My buddy got the liner in the chimney and the stove into the hearth on day 1. Day 2 I got there at 10am and connected it up. By noon we had a small fire going and by 1/1:30 the stove was pretty much done off gassing it seemed. By 3 he had it running at normal operating temperature. Today, day 3 at 6:20 am I got a text with a picture of the stove all ablaze.
Nice. That's really in there. In case it ever gets inspected, don't leave the cut off pieces of feet laying around.
No kidding? I'm taking it that's an issue? My buddy had joked that he was going to wear the cut off pieces on a necklace like they were tiger's teeth. Since it was an open hearth I had never considered it would have needed to be inspected. Slight update --> my buddy *temporarily* stuffed some rock wool insulation around the flue's opening before he installs a block off plate.
Dunno about Ct, but here in Ma you are supposed to pull a permit and it is supposed to be inspected. An ornery inspector could take issue with a stove modification. We did the whole permit/inspect to replace a wood stove and chimney, oil boiler and chimney at my mom's house. Didn't bother with permit/inspect for my house. Both houses I removed the old brick and clay flue chimneys and went with class A.
We are pleased with our DROLET 1800i…..it was definitely good value for our money. Your friend should enjoy it!
