Working on the 3 year plan and I wanted a way to ID the wood so I burn the wood in the correct year. I wanted to color code the tags but also wanted the date on them. But just in case the marker fades in the sun I still have the color as a back up.

This is some of the rejects from the processor. Mostly crotches and uglies. Mostly I just need to cut them once or twice.

Great idea! :sherlock: Nice looking set up there.

I usually write on a bigger splits end the month/year as its usually gone with 12-18 months unless a longer drying wood.

On milk jugs (HDPE) I always had the not-so-permanent markers fade in the sun in short order. A little better on the splits themselves and some wood garden tags.

I wonder if a peice of clear tape might help with uv protection? Maybe clear coat spray paint?

Good idea! I have red equipment tags, they do fade in the sun but so far remain legible. The color coding is next level.

If you are worried about the pen fading, just get a paint pen.

I weigh and date a few splits in every stack on the face of the split with a permanent marker, then put an x on both ends so I can tell which ones are marked.
Near or top course of stack, so easy to pull and check weight.

Maybe mark both sides so the "blind" side fades less?
