I keep a loose record of firewood usage throughout the year and over the years. This year I was determined to keep accurate records. YTD I have burnt 1.3 cord of mostly oak cut off boards and blocks from the pallet mill, with some oak splits too. Looking back on my records this is about average for YTD. Weather has been taking wild swings as you know here in the North East, with well above average and well below average temps. It all evens out. Took advantage of a mild dry yesterday to let fire go out and get on the roof and clean chimney and do some stove maintenance. Stiff south winds previous night blew cap off chimney too, got lucky in that it got caught in oil furnace flue/cap instead of hitting the brick patio and damaged.

    Happy New Year FHC Friends!

No record here but I can say we have burned less so far.

Definitely burned less here too. Been unseasonably warm, but that’s about to change.

Interesting. I am about as far north east as you can get in Canada, and I am seeing similar over the 7 years we have been here. The weather is more unstable now than it was, but burning evens out over the course of the winter.

    Happy new years!

Yea I'd say you were fortunate on the cap. I think I have burnt a smidge more than normal but we have had some cold snaps and I have a good bit of shoulder wood sycamore which has burnt with good heat just not quite as long as other species.

I think I've used about 3/4 of a cord so far.

We started burning later but it has been colder than normal since we started. I think it evened out. We are finishing our first cord.

We light the stove earlier than last season I can’t say how much we have burned
We started off burning uglies and shorts
All I can say is if I run out I will just have to get into next year’s stash
