We went back to the friend's house that had trees taken down. Got 3 more loads hauled home. Yard is cleaned up now... White /red oak and hickory 2nd load...same as above with a bit of mulberry... 3rd load, more odd and ends...it all burns... Still have some in the burn pile to pull out, and several whole trees to process here...
All the logs you get are like telephone poles, I’m jealous. Real cream of the crop wood in those beauties.
Talked to my cousin at church Sunday, they had enough wood for about a day left. He came over Monday morning and Tuesday morning. We had some white oak tops that had been cut about 18 months. The smaller logs were dry, sapwood was a bit punky, but the heart was very solid. He also helped cut a load for a mutual friend that is having a hard time, he had to move recently and is living in a 12x16 storage shed with camp stove heater...we carried him this load...
A friend came over last night, sharpened a couple chains for him, then stacked the hickory we had left from the big shed in a 1 cord shed... Put the grapple on the tractor and staged almost 2 cords of white oak logs for Blue Samson... going in the empty bay on left side...
Got started on processing the white oak logs... Got 2 full rows, 8' high done, started on 3rd row... Found some Stihl RS chains to fit the XS4910 on Fleabay...I think that saw will really eat now. I did compare to a new Oregon and the cutters are longer on Stihl chain, they did cost more though, but should hold edge better...
We cut all these today on same chain, still haven't sharpened it yet. It's a tad slower now. Miz Carol said that's 58 rounds...
When you need to get up there and don't have a ladder.... Good ol' red neck engineering... Helped my son install the service for his house...tied service conduit and wire to totes with rope...he let it down so I could fasten hub to disconnect panel and he put on straps. The pole was way to tall, 35', only needed about 25' total. The guy used the excavator to put up the pole while he was doing septic system and we weren't there to cut it off... Every thing went safely...we rachet strapped the totes together and to the guard on the forks...
Great improvising! Did Ms. Carol get up there too? If so pics please! I mean she does want to be closer to God right?
Oh heck no! I've done some things and I've stacked a lot of IBC totes. Sometimes they don't stay where you want them!
