I hope you fellow hoarders are enjoying this holiday season.
It’s 26 here, heading to the high teens. I’m burning a couple pieces of bigtooth aspen on a sassafras/cherry coal bed.

Ridiculously mild temps until next week. Heading above freezing today, tomorrow, sat, sun and mon. Hopefully, I'll be filling a few pails of water and giving the vehicles a quick wash job as long as it is above freezing.

40* early this am heading for 50*. I had left a couple of windows cracked north and south overnight. We had moderate S wind last night so the house was cooler than usual, around 58*, so after the fire had started well I threw in some very large and very dry Doug Fir bark. The house warmed up quickly! bark1.jpg bark2.jpg

Wouldn't that be a hoot! Thank you kindly but I'll have to take a rain check. Just remembered the Learjet is in the shop for an oil change. I do have some Knob Creek Rye left so I'll make do and wish You and Yours "All the Best", from afar! I will throw another chunk of bark on in your honor!:handshake:

Ha ha. Right on, brother. Knob Creek is good stuff too! I’ll toast to you and yours as well:coldone:

That Doug Fir bark is an anomaly to me. I love the way it puffs up as it burns. I always tell people, it gets bigger as it burns!… for a while anyway. It puts out good heat too. A lot of the pine bark that’s left over after I’ve been splitting gets kicked into the woods. But I always save the Doug fir bark. It’s good btu’s!

    Hey buddy!
The Buffalo Trace is very, very good. I tried it at a little bar in Denver during a fire department Christmas party earlier this month. My wife… eh hem… Santa must have noticed how much I liked it, and a bottle showed up on Christmas morning! I had a little bit last night. Holding off tonight. Maybe a little bit more tomorrow night.

The apple wood does put off crazy blue flames. I’m always mesmerized by that. I was enjoying the smell of it, as I was shoveling the decks last night. Great coals too.
