X27. I like it so far but kind of wish I went with the Isocore instead, especially when dealing with knotty rounds like these.

Not a heaping load but I got everything I wanted from here anyway. The rest of the trunk is getting to be too past its prime. The little 45 marked out all my cuts and the 61 did the bucking. Cut most of the way through, pounded some wedges in and finished the cut while still suspended. Almost like I know what I’m doing

This tree was in serious decline but still alive, and fell recently in a windstorm. I started on it this afternoon and there should be plenty of solid wood left in the trunk before hitting the root flair rot. The 61 Husky wearing the 24” Tsumura bar was the tool of choice today.

Back at the downed oak today. I extracted 3 rounds yesterday but didn’t bother to post such a pathetic amount :) This afternoon I was able to buck 6 rounds and noodle them in half before running out of time. This is some beautiful wood that will most likely get sold in a couple years. I’ll save all the dead-down for myself.

A few more excellent condition red oak rounds today, and a couple smaller white oak skinnies.

Yessir, another 2 loads should have that spot pretty much cleaned up  All that's left are 2 more knot-free rounds from the lower trunk, and about 15 feet of knotty stuff which I don't mind dealing with seeing as it's solid oak.

A quick 9 rounds of black cherry from a tree that’s been down a couple years. There are a few more smaller rounds to be extracted here, but not too much. The base of the tree was punky, the top isn’t great either, and a couple spots have huge cherry knot cankers. I’m fine with a little cherry every year, but I don’t want cords of it to burn. Still a little cherry is better than none at all.

For being down a couple years its still pretty solid on the sapwood. The heartwood lasts for years and gets petrified similar to BL. Ill cut some when I find it at a score.

So, this happened a while back… It was a windy year. Maybe you could provide an assist with ID, Eric?

    Cut/split pics coming down-thread.

Ps hard for this to not sound oddly egocentric - which is not how I mean it - but apologies [to all reading] for the rapid exit and long absence from the forum; see the Thoughts and Prayers forum if interested in the why’s and wherefores.

My son in law and daughter are visiting so he and I got out in the mild weather (but muddy!) and got after it.

No idea what this is though…!

Boxelder. It’s in the maple family. Dries fast and burns hot and fast too. Not terrible.

I've burned a lot of Boxelder in the past and would gladly burn more if I found a source. Not the best but not bad.

Boxelder. Red steaks in the heartwood are the giveaway.
