Can't really say just yet. However the only bells is like to hear right now is my cell phone ringing with WS on the other end saying; 'come pick it up anytime'.

Definite bells both times we have ran the stove. Sounds like someone is hitting the collar with a wrench. It is different than the pinging noise @BrianK had in his video.

    Ideal Steel Hybrid Owners-
The metal fluttering sound that you may have heard on warm-up is the bimetallic, tertiary air strip located at the back of the stove. At start up, it is possible for the bimetallic strip to flutter against the back plate until it is warmed up enough to open fully. We heard this occassionally in our lab and shop but we didn't feel it warranted a design change. If you feel we are wrong, please let us know.

@Lorin Day we find it quite pleasant :) reminds us we are burning wood. It's more rewarding than hearing the furnace kick on.

I don't mind as long as it is part of normal operation.

I heard these Woodstock stoves were high tech, but this is ridiculous.

Thanks Lorin. Anything is better than the constant drone of the blower on the Harman insert (now sold). Haven't burned the Ideal Steel yet, but loving the Progress. Thanks for keeping up with the posts on this site! The kids are loving the rooster stove, hope you liked the pics.

Awesome beta tester and FHC poster - your posts consistently make me laugh (when I believe you want them to) Brian. Course, I have had a few pints tonight...

Friends of ours decided it was time for us to paint our house interior so everything is total chaos right now. They like to paint, we just had to buy what we wanted. Hard to argue with an offer like that. After things settle down the stove is going in. Unless I get the call from Woodstock that the Beta Franklin Hybrid is ready...then the Ideal Steel will get set aside for this season.

We heard the 'alarm clock' for the first time today. I forgot to tell my wife that the stove might make this sound during warm up. Anyways, she saw Lorins response and hopes it's temporary. Maybe once the stove has seasoned a bit it will stop ??

I doubt it will stop. It's a bimettalic strip probably. I must have one of the better ones. Mine is noticeable but not obnoxious. I do think it will show up less once we keep the stove running 24/7. It seems to be a cold start noise.
