After birth I started smoking again (Cigarettes only!) Just before, our 1970's Jenn Aire cooktop vent died (didn't work that well when I bought it used). I ended up buying a Can Fan (similar to greenhouse ventilation fan) , WWW put it in-line and it did the job. But too strong and loud, so I bought a smaller one he switched them. Still worked great but I could have a smoke over the stove/vent when it was cold outside. (Holy Cow the difference in weather not being that far from our old place is absurd-Darned wind) Fast forward to 2014, he put the too high/loud one above my desk, vented, I bought a variable speed thing but even low is still pretty loud. The ducting here is 8". Also, it specificially said not to run on low all the time and that's the only speed this has run on for 10 years except for backdrafts in the old stove, now sometimes I wonder if it will get spinning at all when I turn it on now. Any suggestions on a new quieter way? I see in-line fans, booster, and smaller diameter "quiet" green house fans. Thanks in advance
Pull it out n clean/oil it... it'll be like new again! I have to do that on all our lil portable fans every year or two...
Sure, but save or sell for differen't purpose or home, it's too loud and fast for in here even on low with a weird ducting vent thingy on it. Should I buy a similar but lower cfm? Could an inline duct inducer/booster work?
Hahaha...I don't judge, I drink like a fish and don't want to quit, but the only vent I need is in the bathroom! Good luck with a quieter solution!

Full speed is awesome for smoke from backdrafts but sounds like a jet air plane. I've not studied the website or products, but clicked on this one first since it's 8". Husband used metal ducts. It would be so much easier to switch out with a flex tube. but that's just the way he is. I'll look more tomorrow, thanks again JS. The inlet by my desk and the outlet to outside are 8" is my line of thinking.

I don't know if it would work in a house but the bathroom fan in our RV is extremely quiet especially on low speed. Unfortunately I don't know the brand and it is too wet to go out and look. Maybe look at some RV supply websites and check out the power requirements.
I installed a fart fan right above the work bench in the basement for an occasional cigar throughout the winter months. Vented outside with 4" piping. It is not strong enough (cfm) First time I used it, 99 lbs was upstairs pounding on the floor and yelling "I smell cigar smoke!" So much for that plan..........
