I loaded a half cord of wood and determined that no bark Ash is the perfect “clean” wood appearance. Fortunately I have quite a bit of no bark ash. Unfortunately it makes the oak look dirty. Worst case scenario is he is disappointed and cancels the second trip. That would be ok by me cause I need time to move wood into my own dang house and load up for Sundays delivery.
clean wood? wait till it warms up indoors and the moths, flies and stink bugs take flight. firewood is never really clean.
I’m in the driveway and this db appears to be a no show wah wah wah. Good thing I’ve got a next in line, but I’m on the hook for fuel and time.
Yesterdays delivery. Clean wood is sugar maple that was CSS and top covered right away. Stored in an area that is well protected from the weather. Weathered ends on the dirty beech with missing/ loose bark on some.
I haven’t read all the posts here, I believe that loose bark & splinters is what they are referring to. My son-in-laws father loves barkless red elm & ameican elm. Why ? Because it’s clean, as in very little debris trickling off. He will take oak but only if it’s barkless. He doesn’t like the “mess” This is the same guy that will drive 10 miles out of his way to get from one of my wood piles to the other because of the dirtiness of driving on gravel. I bring this up because this is the type of buyer that Chud is talking about. The local timber buyer/mill has a processor that feeds into a tumbler that dumps into a pile. A lot of debris is cleaned off thru that tumbler & subsequently makes for cleaner splits. I don’t have a processor, a crew or a tumbler so you can expect some bits & pieces to fall off of the firewood I have as with most of us, the same applies.
