Right? lol Get that beech CSS quickly. They turn fast here if not covered/up off the ground. Gonna get like 20 barkless splits out of each of those oak rounds.
Heck of a score! That single beech is more than all the beech I have ever scored. Would love to find a log like that. You can save the RO for The Wood Wolverine.
Great score buZZsaw BRAD I've been burning some beech lately that was stacked 4 years ago. I absolutely love beech because of the thin bark/no mess and good long burning hardwood.
Might be old wire fence? Kinda common around here. Hopefully we find it with the ax or hydro. Could be old nails from "no trespassing" sign.
There was a couple of the logs I cut that were dead. The huge logs are solid. Sadly a lot of beech will be dying off around here and it has a short shelf life once dead.
Now that you mention it I do have one loop of semi skip square grind Stihl chain for the 36" bar. I used it a couple years ago on a big sugar maple trunk just to try it out.
I’ve never tried that before (semi skip). Maybe I’ll get some for my next long chain purchase. I need one for the 42. Hardly ever use it but I hate having a bar sit around that can’t be used. What is your most used bar size Brad? Think mine would be 24 & 28.
I use the 20 mostly on the bigger saws. 14/16" on the smaller saws. Ideal two saw plan for most of what I cut. The 24/5" is nice to slice a big log on a single pass. I don't like having too much bar stick out when bucking. I did buck that 41" oak with a 25" bar on the 500, but was able to roll as it was short and on flat ground, Thinking the 25" Tsunami (Tsumura) bar will make the trip Saturday when I go back. Gonna work the smallest oak alone and get what smaller beech I can. Yes I'm taking the oak! Need half cord to fill up a cord and heartwood splits too. Plenty of them in those logs. Wish you were closer. Be fun to work it together and see you in action.
