We had some early season snow in Southern VT recently and I was able to take out one of the sleds to move some firewood. Also took advantage of things and moved the quad down to the lower shed for the winter. It’s still accessible in case it’s needed; because winter is fickle!

Looks like fun. Hopefully it stays up there most of the Winter. Is it early for snow cover up there?

Whatever snow cover we have, will be going away this week. Warmer temps in the 50's with rain in a few days.

It is a bit early. We’ll usually get some snow on the ground before Christmas, but it often doesn’t hang around. Seems thhe snow tends to stay once we get into the first week or two of January.

And as mentioned, the darn warm and rain in a few days won’t help. Ugh.

Absolutely. It’s a lot of fun when we have snow on the ground for a few months and have regular snowfall to keep the totals up.

Yup. I recall 30+ years ago when North Farms resevoir would freeze up and i'd don the skates and grab the hockey stick. Not the best skater but I had fun. The ponds don't freeze up too much anymore it seems.

If I tried skating today i'd probably break a hip!

A scattered 1/4 inch. Lots of bare areas under trees.

There hasn't been an ice fishing derby, nor an "ice-out" fund raiser here for several years. No ice. Too bad. A buddy and I used to visit the icing derby and walk all around the small lake that's nearby.

I used to pass that resevoir daily and by mid December I'd see skaters and even an ice boat. My brother would ice fish there often.

I drive by a different resevoir right near my wood storage (no skating or ice fishing allowed) and it doesn't fully freeze that often. Thin layer on one area last night.

20241208_095934.jpg 20241208_100206.jpg It's been snowing every day for a week, and we picked up another couple inches overnight. All said we have about 8" or more, the town has plowed the road three times, it's nice powder and I hate to lose it.

Love using the sled for firwood chores! Funny you posted this as I just got the sled up and running yesterday in preparation of using to it move a bunch of wood this winter. Also dug out the chains for the ATV as well. Hoping to continue processing firewood through the winter (we’ll see how that goes). We just had our third decent snowstorm of the season last night, with another 3-5 inches in the forecast for tomorrow night. Not sure what the ground will look like after this week though as they have forecasted a brief warmup with 2-3 inches of rain on Wednesday. Not looking forward to the mess (and ensuing ice) that will create.

Agreed! There’s something fun about using the sled for firewood duties. It’s different from the quad, but in a good way.

Back in the day, a buddy and mine would ride our ATVs around during snowstorms (in CT). Seems that’s a thing of the past now.

We are the same here, used to be real snow, and ice you could drive on! But not lately...was always fun riding ATVs and/or snowmobiles through town when the snow was heavy...probably couldn't get away with that now, the cops have ATVs and SxS now too! Back in the day they were driving Crown Vic's with snow tires
