I had a red oak blow down during a storm last Spring and finally got to work on it today.

Got the limbs piled up and ready to chip.

Ended up with 41’ of good straight trunk.

I cut it into 5’ lengths so that I can move them with the grappling to my splitting area. I’ll buck it to 20” lengths there and get it split and stacked. It was 13”DBH which is just about right for me. I’m getting too old to enjoy handling anything much bigger. Weather permitting, I should be able to finish it up tomorrow. More pics then if I do.

Hear ya about getting too old to deal with big diameter trees. 13" is perfect.

Gotta love nice straight trees. Some nice rounds to come from that. Looking forward to the follow up pics.

    Hoard on and cut safe.

I've had them lay for a couple of years before getting them done. Noticed a fresh red oak with a little punk right off the trail when I was riding up to the woods stacks yesterday. Will need to stick a saw in and see if worth effort.
