I can't even imagine having to give up a pretty, let alone a companion like Selah. Your friend Stumpy should see if he can talk the landlord into allowing her, because it could be a short term deal. Otherwise, are there other FHC'ers that could take her, long or short term.

She’s a beautiful Shepard. I hope that you find her a good home.

See if Stumpy can get creative if you get her an emotional support dog certificate. She's kept you alive so far, surely this could work. Assuming she's house-trained and well behaved I sunny see why they wouldn't allow her. A friend recently got a their dog certified as an emotional support dog and the condo they moved to had to allow the dog, despite that the condo doesn't allow any dogs.

Do I recall you had a German Shepard in the past? And would you know of German Shepard rescues up there?

She is my one and only.
I'm searching through folks I know, but will be looking at Rescues as well.
Thanks for the heads-up on that.

I had a GSD, Missy, long ago. Her original family, which my ex was friends with, was good at instilling phobias in her as a pup - when they split up, we took her in. She was very willing to please, just sometimes couldn't get up the courage to do what we asked.

Although there are a lot of rescues up here, I don't personally know of one that I could recommend. The only two I would be comfortable with suggesting only bring up pups/kittens and younger dogs from southern states - or will take in hardship/abuse/hoarding cases from in state. They don't normally do large breeds either. I'm sure we have some fine rescues, maybe even a lot or most are good, I just don't know them.

About the size of our Aussie and occasionally he gets up on Daddy's lap because Mommy won't allow him on the couch.

Hey Mikey, she like's it! She likes it!

First night she didn't come home, then I caught WWW's wicked stomach bug so they ran the house for a couple days. I went out at like 3am today, she was snoozing, even with old rectangle heating mat in there the walls were as high/higher than her body and head :handshake: Interesting the walls are floppy/cushy, they don't stand up as I assumed from the pic, but straightened them up/out a bit and it worked :) TX

Huh, I figured the walls would be more rigid too. Glad she likes it!

I would try a cat condo high up on a cat tree or other area she can climb up to. Cats love a high perch and that might enable you to use an enclosed condo to help keep her warm and protected.

That is not necessarily the case with feral cats. My Lila doesn't jump up to anything. All the places she travels and stays are on the floor. I have cams that confirm she doesn't do any climbing or jumping. The only time she climbed/jumped anything was when she escaped the original room I had her in (obviously she was super motivated). Even when she found the hidey hole under the stairs - the hole in the stack of boxes she started at was about head level to her. If she chose, she could be at all kinds of elevations between pellet piles, shelves, tables, washer/drier etc. Spot will go all over the place and actually get up into the lumber that is near the ceiling or on top of shelving. But Lila doesn't do any of that and evinces no interest in trying.

My feral cat Fuzzy from back in the early 2000's (that took 5-6 years to even touch, then get indoors), only got as high as the couch or bed - and usually that was when he was joining a human. Never went higher when he was inside.

I will admit that I've had some pets that didn't act as one would expect. I had a cockatiel that loved to sleep on the bottom of his cage (usually they like sleeping as high as they can get), and a Red Lory that hung from the top of her cage, sleeping like a bat (they usually like to sleep low as they aren't a primarily flying bird).

My Lila is actively working past her mistrust and nervousness. I am so proud of how she pushes herself.

Here is a video of 4 clips during dinner time yesterday (12/13/24). During the 3rd & 4th parts, she wants to approach me, but is also testing me to see if I try to grab (or maybe hit) her. You can't hear it, but in the 3rd clip, she is purring (and you can see her getting close to making biscuits). Her purring is for 2 reasons; she is happy with a full belly, and she is self-soothing thru her nervousness of what she is attempting.

Sorry about the light going on and off, which makes some in color and some in black and white - I have the light overhead set to motion detection and it isn't super sensitive.

At the end of the last clip, I got up and left. Her going over by the pellets was a sure sign that she had had about enough of being brave and she was ready to hit her hidy hole. Once I left, she was all good - she spends most of the night and until breakfast time out and about in the basement and on the stairs.
