Split the lone shorter piece while I was running the hydro this morning. (forgot to take a pic) Had no aroma but very heavy. Im thinking its the kousa dogwood.
If that is Chinese elm it us very dense and holds water for a long time. Id treat it like oak and season it at least two years if that is the same stuff we had in our yard where I grew up.
If I don't give it to a fellow FHCer it may go into a multi-year drying stack with oak, hickory and honey locust.
Yes it is dense. My dad cut one down, a piece of the base was probably 7ish inches and about 16-18 inches long...I was very surprised at how heavy it was. Probably just as heavy or heavier than a piece of white oak that size would be...
