Getting hit with a pretty decent cold spell past few days and this up coming week. Highs in the mid-upper 30s, low's in the mid 20's. Stove is chooching along with some uglies and a mix of oak and maple......
Hoarder here too....well at least at heart. But we're burning off our stored wood....had 11 cord, down to maybe 9. Its about average we use 2 before the turn of the year, and 4 after. With Stumpy here, i bet we've cleared about 2 cord by now. He is on the first floor where it gets cold first, so he loads the stove pretty well all night. Mostly 3 yr RO. I went through a bunch of EWP, and have some stacks of bark (Ash) to burn off. It won't get much above freezing today, so we'll keep a good fire going after church. PNG is playing hookey from church again, so maybe she'll keep the stove hot while Stumpy and I are out. With 2 year's supply on hand, and maybe a month or so to enjoy it, I am happy keeping us well toasty! On a side note, all saws and equipment are safely stowed in the truck tool box....saws, chains, oil and fuel, 2 mauls, axe and pickaroon. They go with me wherever I go. Sca
27/70 and not getting much above freezing here today. Still burning up my stash of sassafras and cherry. I won’t complain though; I’ve been burning for weeks and still haven’t done an ash clean out
22 @5:30 this morning. Had some coals left from last night and tossed a mix of kentucky coffee tree and oak. On a side note the KCT seems to leave "clinkers" more than any wood Ive burned.
22⁰ Overnight. Looks to stay cold through the week. Burning 4yr red and white oak, 24/7. Plenty of coals for morning re-lights. We've been away for a week. A good day to air out the bedrooms. Windows open a crack.
Just realize there are many who could not take living in your area too. Over the years we've been asked why we don't live further south. Yet if I were to move it would no doubt be to return to Michigan's upper peninsula rather than go even 50 miles south.
It's been pretty cold for a few days now. Overnight it was in the teens and even now it is only 21° out. Cold blooded Kohler in the garden tractor was slow to start yesterday and today, but she started. Burning 3 yr seasoned honey locust and ash at night, and box elder attempting to burn coals down during the day. 73° in the stove room. Blower fan in the quadrafire went out. I'll be buying a DC one that they offer on Amazon. That DC vs AC fan is programmable, can be controlled by Bluetooth and will basically run on it's own as needed. Also due to being DC, they are much more efficient and will use a lot less energy. The whole DC phenomenon was used a few years ago in the aquarium industry and it's been extremely effective, so I'm surprised it took this long for the tech to get to blower fans.
Lol. How many BTU's in spiders? I have been burning a few box elder bugs and idk what BTU they are and if box elder bugs or spiders have more BTU's.
We were able to get the end 1/3 of the house FULLY insulated in April when it warmed up . IT IS SOOOOO NICE !!! Not everything is done yet . But it's coming along !
25/75 sassafras and cherry. Got a call from a family member today already needing wood cut them some dead standing cherry that isn't pretty but is dry we'll see what they say.
I’m still seeing a lot of spiders. They are black but I’m not seeing the red hourglass. Watching the pre game in Buffalo and it looks like fans have got a bit of shoveling to do before they can sit down. That looks like as much fun as a frosty mug of Benadryl. 40/68 packed up with Red Oak
Low is headed down to 18 tonight. Tomorrow’s first day of gun season. The cold should get them on the move. Ash, Cherry, Red and White Oak and a big split of Black Locust in the Fireview.
Low of 13 tonight. Ash in the boiler. Got the garage heat turned on so I'm going to burn quite a bit over the next couple days with lows in the 10's.
