A dead Silver Maple …. Rented a 55 foot man lift…This one made me nervous with it being dead, but also knew it would be challenging and fun one to get down. I took off a limb about 4 years ago as it fell on his deck in a wind storm. The Tree as it stood... The Down ... Looking down the tree... A lot of cracks throughout the tree... Front limb down... Back two left...
PPE saved some blood and head... Not sure what exactly happened, crook of the tree limb must have twisted around on the fall. It was about a 4 foot 16" limb that thumped it. Cause it started 180 degrees away. But this was the only mishap of the day. Never wore a helmet till amateur cutter and walt gave some wise advice and being around them for long enough you learn. Glad I had it on. The look at the ground crew... Limb two down... One left... Limb 3 pretty much down... All down and on the ground... Nerves settled... Rope tied off to the tree... Only 1 limb hit the railing and took out a bit... Most fell into the old pool... 395 called in for the heavy lifting...
Now if the snow isn't too bad or holds off I'll have a hackberry and probably a few smaller trees today...
Holy smokes, glad you had that helmet on. I too have learned from the fine folks on the forum and always wear PPE. Nice job on the take down. That’s one heck of a beast too. No way I’d be ok that high up in a lift.
Thats a good sized tree. Being dead makes it twice as dangerous. Glad you got it down with minimal collateral damage...yourself included. You getting the wood Kevin?
Glad you didn't get hurt. And thanks for the reminder...I need a new chainsaw helmet. That'll be a good idea for a Christmas present.
Well today wasn’t the best day… but we got some work done. Two trees down. One that was in immediate danger of the house and one came down to prepare a path of falling for the main tree… We ended up probably getting 3” of snow… slowed us down quite a bit… but 2 riggings are set for tomorrow in the tree… The hackberry that’s the main target The elm with a dead top that was leaning to the house… The rigging of the elm down.. The elm that’s in my way…
The Elm that’s in my way..down fairly smooth drop. The stump hinge picture… The Hackberry The down view The end of the day… got a couple of the weighted branches hang away from the fall. The issue is that’s there is slight back lean that I’ll have to overcome.
Coming along nicely there. That stinks about the snow. Any heated handled saws? Take it slow and be safe tomorrow Kevin.
