Not sure how many you’re allowed to shoot but in my zone in NJ, you can stack the does up.

Shot two does so far here. Just haven’t had anything Ive wanted to shoot close enough to do so as far as bucks. Gun opens end of this week, so we’ll see what happens. I’ll shoot the big does all day long that sit there and try and pick you out of the tree! They make for great eating too!

Tonight I had a young 5pt come by chasing a doe. I let him walk on. 10 minutes later Mr. Forky comes by with a doe and the 5pt shows back up. Challenging the larger body sized Mr. Forky, who seemed annoyed. They lightly sparred for a few minutes. Pretty neat to see.

Yep. And I mostly get sausage and hot sticks made from the venison. I of course get the back straps and chips, plus a couple of roasts for non sausage use.

I've shot a lot of does, now I'm letting smaller bucks grow and they are getting bigger.

Now, I could get a doe down at my friend's land close to home, after I get a buck up in northern Wisconsin.;). Heck, I technically could get 3 or 4 does by home. That's how many free doe tags they give down in the southern farmland region.

Can't shoot a great buck if you kill all the good ones.

Only way to get big bucks is to not shoot the little bucks

Our zone along the Canadian border has a sub 10 percentile success rate (bucks only), and 2-4 deer per square mile. Last year there were no scrapes in our hunting area which is as far as a day’s walk from the cabin will take us. Well now this year I found an area where there is a nice buck that has survived the wolves and at least three winters, and I got so see a doe with her fawn. So hopefully within the next few years the deer will rebound to our typical 10-12 deer per square mile. The best part is being in the woods and not seeing another hunter for 3 full days (or hearing any shots for that matter).

Do you live that far north(along the Canadian border) or is that where you hunt?

We used to live there and now have our cabin that I built on some of our original land. It is about 300 miles north of our current home.

It's amazing how it works. I was figuring that neighbors would take those smaller ones, but it appears that they are doing the same.

Now I still am seeing some small bucks, but there's also way more nicer ones.

Headed up North for deer season on Friday am. Season starts Saturday morning.

Got a doe this morning. Not a great shot but she was down in 50 yards. Lots of blood so I guess it wasn’t too bad of a shot, IMG_3207.jpeg
Bolt lost steam on the back shoulder blade, bolt snapped, couldn’t find the lumenock. Swhacker took a beating.

Field dressed the deer with the knife I got at walt GTG from SBK1980, very sharp!

    Thanks.
Stoked to fill the freezer up. Grinding most of this up here in a few. It sure was nice dragging her out of the woods in the light snow. Almost no resistance.
