Don't sugar coat it lol ! I'm in the camp you are too. I learned alot early on....but don't get into it like I use to. I do enjoy the stand up and buck stuff. I honestly..only watch every 30th video or so now ..might as well unsubscribe I guess. Although..i now use longer bars...to stand up and buck when I can....all thanks to him ...and I now have proper gullets on all my chains ! And some of those vintage hot rod saws he has..my goodness..so cool !
Idk...im 5'11"..I usually use a 24"...and it works OK. 28" is gooder! Lol For me..anymore than that...the extra length and weight that far away from me...negates the benefits from bending down with a shorter bar. 24" is my sweet spot most days.
Yes the 009L has more cc's than a 201. I've heard of putting an 012 top end in an 009 making it 45cc's. I have a running (albeit very poorly) 009 that I bought dirt cheap to maybe try it someday.
Read about it on arborsite a few years back and not being an chain saw mechanic ( I mean no disrespect when I say that) I didn't fully comprehend what it meant. I like using them not working on them!
Actually the 009,010,011&012 are the same family and I’m pretty sure they should all interchange but if not the 009 would be the odd one because the 10,11&12 all look the same even with the same non available reed and reed plate gaskets still have a parts 011. And some used reeds and gaskets both styles
Back when Ebay first started I saw a listing for 3 jugs and 2 NOS Stihl pistons listed for a 009. I bought it as mine had the rubber plug come out between the bar and intake. It had completely packed the case with sawdust and trashed the cyclinder. I tore it all down and that is when I noticed the difference with what I had. Here are all 4 of them. The 009 is 3rd from the left with 2 mounting holes. Notice the 2 small tabs between the 2 bigger skirts are not present on the 009. The diameter that fit in the case was also smaller on the 009. Not one to give up, as the seller wouldn't take them back, I cut the 2 small tabs off and and hacked the skirt diameter down. It still hit and looked like I would have to trim some on the case to attempt to see if it would even work.. I gave up and bought a correct one from a dealer as I didn't want to mess up the case for a "maybe". You can see here how much I had to take off. This is one of the boxes it came in. While at the dealer I asked what that number was for and they wrote 010. (I guess I mispoke about the 011) That is what I was going off of. The jug itself says 1120 Stihl on one side and the other sayd Mahle +38 ZD 24. I may have gotten them in the wrong boxes, dealer may be wrong with Box numbers or somthing else as the seller was for sure wrong. All I know is it didn't work.
009, 010, 011, & 012 are all series 1120 saws. That 012 top handle is about the ugliest chainsaw I've ever seen!
When Stihl made the 090 into an AV, it looked kind of wonky too. This is an all factory original besides the bar.
Actually that bar looks close in age too, the white bars with 3 orange stripes and stihl written in orange or black on it.
This was one of the last ones made. Township in New York bought 2 of them and barely used them. I got it from them about 15 years ago.
It's not a Stihl bar but what was on it when I bought it. Guy told me they had one saw with 3 ft and one with a 4ft so they wouldn't have to change. LOL
Never have seen one in person nor rain one. I like the later generation without the top bar as Lehman mentioned.
They get the job done but my 660 will cut faster just because the rpm's are higher. The 090 might overtake on something 5 ft or bigger with a larger bar but it would surprise me if it did. Hard to beat rpms. You have to respect them for the era they were in.
I’d actually be surprised if it wasn’t a Stihl bar sure looks like a 80’s Stihl bar but I may be wrong.
It says Windsor Dura Tip. I don't believe Stihl sold those on their saws. The guy told me they bought the 4 ft bar as they both came with 3 fts.
