My buddy is a woodworker. He makes allot of furniture etc. he gave me a bin full of scraps. Much of it appears to be maple and oak. This will last me LONG time.
This fall I’ve been going through a bit because we don’t keep the fire going all day and haven’t been having big fires.
Same pattern here , my fire goes out during the day so needs s jumpstart when I get home so it is basically two starts a day. Pretty much normal for me. I am lucky to have access to pallets from work and I run them through the bandsaw. Although recently I have been using some cedar scraps from the mill as kindling so nothing goes to waste.
Pine stud cutoffs are my absolute favorite kindling wood. I split them down pretty far and you can basically match light them. Don't have any for this season, just splitter leavings.
What species of pine? I split up a couple Eastern white pine logs back in September. Boxed them up and have them next to the furnace and swear they are dry enough to use already.
Ain't sure. Assume it to be southern yellow, but could be some Canadastan variety due to my location. Long as it's been kiln dried it works great.
I'm sitting pretty right now. 4 or 5 large boxes full now and easy access if I need more. I have actually been taking a nice straight split and breaking it down further into kindling , why when I have boxes full? I have no clue....?
Yeah I think the hatchet is part of it. Plus the boxes are packed and stacked so well I hate to use it LOL
