Now the factory bar is stamped 18." It appears they measure to the center of the front bar stud. At least that's what got me the 18" measurement. Tape was hooked on the bar tip, not the chain.

Here is my takeaway from yesterday. Sugihara "light" bars are NOT very light in the shorter lengths.

Echo always wonky on DL/bar lengths. It was a mild chore to find the correct Tsumura bar for my 501. My 3400 uses an odd DL # (for 14" bar) Of course the 501 is actually a Shindaiwa so they must also like to make things 'difficult'.

I edited my above post. The word NOT was added. Left out by mistake initially.

I agree on the echo DL count / bar pattern thing as I research bars for my future European echo purchase. From what I understand, a K95 small mount Husqvarna bar is easily fitted with slight modifications to the oil holes in the bar. That's probably the route I'll go. Most likely an oregon speed cut because they are the next lightest bar I've found compared to stihl light bars. In the lengths I use anyway. So far the 18" speed cut is holding up well on my 241. Not a ton of cut time on it yet but soon will be when the log bucking starts in full swing.

The small mount echo is also small dolmar / Makita and small poulan / poulan pro. Probably others too.

I've had pretty good results modding k095's for use on echoes.

I like Echo but when I have to get outside of my K095 or D003 bubble I get cranky. Their tools I have are currently the only time I have to venture out of the bubble at all. Can't imagine the bother it must have been back in the 60s when almost every manufacturer had proprietary stuff.

Lol. I know all about it. I have more vintage saws than modern. I have a "wall" of different bars for different brands. I have cut that back significantly though.

Good to know. If I recall, you fit a K95 on to the 241 as well.

No pics to prove it, but we took the ported ms241 out cedar killing this afternoon.....
those things are awesome after a good port job.

(I had this one done up by zoo city saws.)

It'll be interesting to see how this echo compares to the 241 after your mods.

It would be a miracle if it was even close to my sausage stuffed 241. It straight up rips. There is only so much I can do with a clam shell saw or any saw compared to Kevin.:handshake:

How long ago did you get your 241 ported?

I just got it back a few weeks ago, today was it's first real use.
So far I'm liking it pretty much.

Nice. I've never heard of Zoo city saws.
