Step daughters BF asked me to take down a couple long dead ashes. Normally not a problem other than on a slope engulfed by vines, prickers and overgrowth. Told him to clear it out and I'd bring a big saw as they were good size. Roughly 24" DBH. IMG_6391.JPG IMG_6393.JPG Not my best stump, but got it down without issue. Haven't cut with the 28" bar in a long time. Bound the 50oi a couple times and his Husky to the rescue. Yes FHC I did use a Husky. It wont happen again! :D Bucked most of it up. I was surprised the big rounds were still decent. They've been dead for several years. The other ill take down on a future visit. IMG_6395.JPG IMG_6394.JPG Oakie (I didn't name him) approved. No brand judgment here. They all cut, they all break. :dex:

Inside joke here as I'm a Stihl guy and we kid each other about brand loyalty.

Oh, I'm aware. Just never understood the concept of "brand loyalty". Saws, trucks, tractors... In the race to the top (or bottom) the lead always changes.

My first Stihl was given to me new in 1985 (an 028) when I was 17 and they have treated my well so I stick with them. As has Ford.

I would've done the same thing myself, asking him to remove the vines first. That's one heck of a mess. Hard to believe you actually ran a Husky too ;) Are you keeping the wood or no?

None for me. They will process and his father will burn it. He may use some in his greenhouse stove.

I kinda liked the Husky (shhhhhh) ergonomics and switch. When I went to use it the second time it wouldn't hot start after many pulls and even choking...seriously. He did get it started.

Hot restarts sometimes are best done with the saw put on fast idle and not choked. On that saw I believe the on/off switch gets taken up to choke, then down to the run position. It’ll stay on fast idle till you blip the throttle.
