I see a lot of top shelf ammo here. Have you ever tried Wolf's match ammo? I got two rifles that really like it and the pricing isn't (wasn't) bad at all.
What kind of drop are you thinking you will have with sub-sonic 30-30 ammo ? I thought the Rugers came with tapped barrels ? My 17HMR is a gen 1 & is tapped. Maybe it’s just an option ? my gen 2 204 is tapped as well. I have been wanting a muffler for them. I just haven’t had the funds when I had the time & vice versa.
"Tapped" as in 'you're in'. lol Yes, they are threaded 5/8-24. I actually prefer the looks of the gen 1. A fluted barrel on a 'truck gun'? Seems a bit posh. Drop is significant with a 255gr slug. 30" difference from 100 to 200. But...you don't *have to shoot subs if you need more range. The goocher...difference between the two and which to zero and which to compensate for. Would I get lucky and zero subs at 50 and have full powers hitting where they should at 100? Prettymuch a trial & error thing. Luckily it's one of the more 'economical' cartridges to shoot. I think I accidentally offended my boss because I was 'pooing' on the .300blk cartridge. Essentially the .300 exists so people can get proper feeding of 762x39 into an AR platform. All std ballistics favor the x39 and the .300 is a good deal more expensive to buy. However, the .300 does shine a bit when velocities are below 1050.
I'm not a fan of the 300 blk. For every use except a really short suppressed barrel, the x39 is better than the 300blk. In AR use, you just need to use good mags for proper feeding of x39.
I'm a big fan of Milsurp calibers. As with all things in this Nation people seem to become 'bored' of the stuff that has worked well since forever. That said, the mighty 45-70 has seen a bit of resurgence lately. Happy about that.
I've got a couple 300 blks. 2 short ones I've had for a while. Mainly for the quiet angle. And I have lots of .223/5.56 brass if I ever need to make 300 blk, and lots of mags. Got a ruger american gen 2 a couple months ago in 300 blk, "mainly for my daughter", at least that's what I'm sticking with. The gen 2 I can shorten the stock for her, recoil should be minimal and I can put a can on it. (She's a bit sound and recoil scared right now.) I haven't even shot it yet, just put scope on it a couple weekends ago. Shooting/sighting in is on my list....the list that just keeps getting longer....
I have only briefly played with 'professional' .22lr ammo. I had bought the Wolf at a time where 22 was hard to come by and I needed something subsonic. After shooting a couple of bricks of it I decided I probably do not need to buy the Eley's and such. Groupings are not of single hole variety, but I found it to be very very consistent with few fliers. It and Norma Tac are what I used to shoot flies with.
My cousin bought one of these Barrett's He gave 11k for his somewhere else No idea why he bought it he just wanted it. 89.00 .22s at rural king I have 2 of those gx4s they have been excellent no issues at all i just like the larger shield plus better for shooting i have big hands.
Shot my dad's 300 win mag Browning bar mark2 today at my business 100 yrd range. It needed the scope adjusted but it's on now. Despite it been heavy and a gas auto loader with the BOSS system, it still kicks pretty good. Granted I had to shoot 12 rds. , so there's that. Then I shot 3 rds with my 7mm rem mag Ruger m77 mk2. It's spot on as always. Then I had 1 shot worth of 50 cal cva optima muzzleloader. I only had 2 of the powder pellets, and a bunch of power belt 265 gr sabots. I'll buy more powder pellets. That was pretty fun. I'll also add a scope to the muzzleloader since our state allows them now. They've allowed scopes for a couple of years actually, I just never got to it. This was the first time I've shot that optima. Then I sighted in my 10/22 after putting a 3x9 scope on it. It only needed to be moved up about 8". That's it. Shot the 22 gong with it a lot. Pretty fun really. My shoulder appreciated the 22 LR after the magnums and the muzzleloader. I'm all set for deer season with the magnums.
I ran my late friends range and helped get everyone ready for rifle season New scopes 25yd to get them on paper then 110yds to fine tune I brought pistols to shoot plates and target's 18yds the ts9 It's become my favorite polymer pistol to range shoot Very accurate and comfortable.
Getting the new .223 Ackley Improved out and fire forming cartridges. Great results already with factory loads in standard 223 Rem. Looking forward load development with proper fire-formed brass and broken in barrel.
My buddy and I hit the gravel pit with his new .223 with thermal scope for nighttime coyote hunting. 100 yards to the target is about the maximum range here. He taped a hand warming packet to a box as our target. Nice shooting gun. We also shot my Marlin Camp 9 and Glock 19. Targets were old rusty coffee cans at short ranges. It was fun making them jump.
Just after ammunition now my hollowpoints are at least 11 year's old I bought 500 of these federal+p 124gr hst from bereli And i wanted some budget hollowpoints i got 900 of these from palmetto State I watched some good reviews on YouTube. These will last many year's.
For anyone looking for a muffler Silencer Central is having a bogo. Buy a muffler over $850 & get a small rim fire muffler for the cost of the tax stamp.
