An antenna is cheap, comparatively. ;)

Yes, but apparently there's some new TVs that don't have a tuner. Yes, when they went to all digital, you had to get a converter box to retrofit an older non digital TV. Even the 80 dollar TV's have tuners from my quick perusal on Walmarts site.

I guess i don't know the difference between a tuner and antenna. I just kinda figured one in the same.

If you don't have a tuner, no need for an antenna...

True but thinking of it in term of a radio they are definitely two different parts. I guess I've been confused in terms of the tv because I've seen tvs with and without the digital antennas.

I can't hardly believe they'd make a tv without a tuner. It's just a screen then. Tvs can at least be used for weather warnings and whatnot.

Tuner is the difference between a television and a monitor.

Bingo. In order to be a TV, according to the FCC, it has to have a tuner.

It may be cheap but I'd basically get one local channel that I would watch the local news on at 5 am, and no other channels that I'm interested in (that I could maybe get with a booster). Also, the local station rarely has football (I think they get the season opener for the "home" team and that is it). I have a core of 5 channels I watch plus a Boston channel for football on Sundays. If I can only get 1 one those channels at a fair to good reception, and none of the rest, it's not worth it to me.

Oh yeah, I might be able to get some Latino radio stations too - not sure how I could pass that up ;)
