My Stihl MS441 magnum lost the muffler yesterday. Is a replacement job easy enough for me to do? Any suggestions of what type of muffler to put on this totally stock chainsaw?

Thanks in advance for suggestions and tips.!

It should bolt right back on unless the threads are junked in jug. You can probably buy an after market stock muffler or OEM from the interweb or just order a OEM Stihl from your local dealer.

Looks like 2 screws into the case, then the 2 screws that attach it to the cylinder. Should be a very straightforward replacement.

Yup, easy peasy unless there are "complications"

the cooling shield also came off. Should I get another or just sandwich the old one between the cylinder and the muffler?

And thanks for the replies, all yall are the best

The bottom ones are intact. I did not find the screws that go through the muffler and attach to the cylinder.

Well then the threads in the jug and other area should still be good… maybe shop for a serviceable LocTite when your replacement muffler comes in.

I’ve used red loctite on mine before. Still able to break them loose when necessary.

You will be fine with the blue on a Stihl. There must of been a Swede working the day that saw was assembled…

Now if you had a Husky, that would require the red super duper stuff. ..

You'll need red for high temp service like that...not sure red is even good enough...melts at 500* IIRC...EGTs are headed toward 1000* right out of the cylinder

They also say “1 crossed thread is as good as any LocTite!”

I don't understand how this wasn't noticed long before it completely fell off. You'd think it would have been rattling and getting very loud before it exited the saw.

Oh it did. The first hour or so of cutting I just thought it might be running rich. After I figured out it was a loose muffler, it was too late after that and just kept on going.

Must have been a 441c or tuned real rich to survive running over an hour with loose exhaust and leaning out because of it. Seen many 350 huskies blown up with melted oil tanks from loose mufflers
