It's official, my fiancé and I are buying out the family homestead. My little house that was on the property is torn down and mom and dad are putting a modular home, which is designed for people with mobility issues, in its place. When they move from their house my family will move into the family home.

Last winter was mom and dads first winter in ohio in about 20 years. They sold the Florida place and stayed home. My wood supply took a major hit with two houses burning wood. All summer has been spent moving my stuff, removing decks and metal roofs. Shopping for homes, moving sheds and trying to fit 10 pounds of crap in a five pound bag.

There is still around 6 cord or so and I plan on mixing in some Eco-bricks. Dad is already planning his hearth for his new place. He will not go without a stove, I get it honest. We will be a year off with our wood supply. I have plenty of ash to get this winter. There is plenty of bent over maples from a ice storm several years ago. I let them grow so I could get more wood out of them. They are about ready to get thinned out. I will focus on cutting wood that dries quickly so I will have some for next year.

The house we are moving into has two stoves in it but I will need to make some changes for the T6 and for better heat circulation. It will be a slow process but it will all come together.

All of the moving will be worth it. We plan on being moved in around Dec. or Jan. It has been a long road to get here but worth all the effort.

My critter killer snuck back under the house. The cat used up some of its 9 lives.

The propane tank in the background hasn't been filled in three years. The last time the propane truck came down the drive and realized I didn't need any fuel he complained about the prices and told me to keep doing what I'm doing .

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen. I will need some wisdom and advice when I start to swap stoves around and remodel hearths. It great to have access to the knowledge and know how from everyone on this site.

    Hang in there brother....

Good.on you for taking care of your folks, shows the class of man you are....FIRST class.

Always time for more wood.....and I'm sure good karma will come your way. Nows a good time to look for some standing dead maple and oak. That will help build your supply for next year up quickly....

Keep your head up high. You should be proud of yourself. Many people would put their folks in nursing homes. Your a real man. God will bless you with plenty of wood. Good things happen to good people and your one of them..cheers

As Scotty said, taking care of the folks first is #1, your doing that and taking care of your own family.
The wood will come, feel fortunate you had what you needed to get by when things did change.
Your doing ok...lean on any of us when you need.

Life is all about the journey. Enjoy the time with family, the generations living in the same area, and the wood that will warm them all.

CALLING FOLKS WHO LIVE IN SOUTHERN OHIO. Here is a fine young man who could use a little help with the wood. Can anyone around there give a hand now and then?

Best of luck to you on the move and also on the folks new home.

I am appreciative of all the support. My thought was to call out to the fellow hoarders that I might need advice and perspective when I setup in the family house and when I do the install at mom and dads. The support has been fantastic and shows what caliber of people are on this fine forum.

Mom and dad are not in a condition that they would need a nursing home. Mom does have mobility issues and really does need a single level, walk-in shower home. My dad is 82 years old and would out work most 60 year olds. He still cuts wood and takes the dog for a walk in the woods everyday.

The whole family talked extensively about it and moving dad to town would be like sweet talking a badger out of a meal. It ain't gonna happen. Mom and dad really enjoys my family too. They are good for each other.

Once again, I appreciate the support and am fully aware pics are mandatory when a stove gets installed in either house. We will be good on heat this winter. We have several cord plus the Eco-bricks. The call out for any assistance is fantastic and humbling but we won't go cold this winter. If anyone has the time to help someone, help a family that might actually need it for survival.

That's one big reason he's 82. Sounds as tho you'll be having lots of time together in those woods too...

It is easy to relate to how your dad feels about moving into town. That is the last thing my wife and I will want. We want to stay where we are until the last day. Neither of us like to be in town; the woods are our home.
