    I love red oak too, just haven't gotten any recently (for myself).

    I don't get much of that prime stuff so I save it over the years and only burn it on the coldest nights. Ash has been my mainstay ever since the little green terror struck. Ash is good but oak is great.

    Yup, that's the stuff. Splits right where you want it to, and you can often use a light axe.
