Hello, Have a Harman Advance, unknown year but has the direct (non chain) drive and did not have the factory bypass. I vent w 3"' pellet vent and an OAK. Been fighting 6 blink for a couple years now. This year really trying to fix it. Disconnected stove entirely, cleaned all piping. Pulled auger and slide plate, cleaned all interior and parts. The slide plate and auger were nice and gummy but got them sand blasted and cleaned up nice. Installed bypass kit, new ESP, and new auger motor. Still getting six blink shut down. Flame seems nice and strong and dancing - until it is not. Now working on new door and glass gaskets. Can anyone provide info on how to properly seal the glass panes? When I dis-assembled, only the top, bottom, and outer edge of the two smaller side panes actually had gasket on it. Is there supposed to be gasket all around, including the inside edges where they go into the metal frame that connects the center and side panes? Any other thoughts/ recommendations for 6 blink fix? Update: Got all new gaskets installed for the door, glass and ash pan. Let all the gaskets and RTV cure for 24+ hours. Also installed a brand new vacuum switch. Verified tubing is tight and still attached to the muffler in the hopper. Also replaced igniter - though I don’t believe related to 6 blink error code shut down. First burn - 6 blinks. :/ Any recommendations?
Welcome to the club and nice to meet you Congrats on the relacing the gaskets. Afraid I don't know Harman, but in my stove the vacuum switch has two male ends, is the tube on the correct one?

Ran a test today by disconnecting the vac switch entirely and jumping the wires. Still shut down on a 6 blink, so I am assuming that isolates the shut down to the temperature side of failure (via the ESP) and not the pressure/vacuum side side (via the pressure switch). Since my ESP is brand new, it shouldn’t be that either. Now thinking I have issue with the control board - possibly dip switch settings for ESP (mine is red and I replaced like with like) or possibly board failure.
I dont' know anything about the Advance, but the manual for my P-series stoves says that a 6-blink error is caused by incomplete combustion for more than 25 minutes. The fact you mention gumminess, also points to incomplete combustion. I don't think throwing parts at the stove is going to solve your issue.
When I tore down the stove and pulled the auger and slide plate I had them both sand blasted. I manually cleaned the internal surfaces with wire wheel, including the face where the bypass hose hole was added. Are you saying the “gumminess” was likely elsewhere that I may not have cleaned? Is this stove a lost cause?
Some people don't know all the nooks and crannies, Looks like there's doors/plates that need to be cleaned on page 23 25 26, did you get those in your stove? Also how is your pipe cap at top, is it possible that is blocked or clogged? https://downloads.hearthnhome.com/installmanuals/advance.pdf
Hello I have an older advance and never had never had that issue. The only differences between yours and mine is that I have the chain drive for the auger and you have the muffler in the hopper connected to the vacuum switch tube. Since you jumped the vacuum switch that eliminated the muffler as contributing to the problem. I do have the old black analog temperature probe. The red temperature probe must have Dip switch # 5 up so check that and that the probe itself is clean and shinny. Also Check all the Dip Switch settings on your control panel for your Harman Advance. I attached the Harman Circuit Board settings pdf for you below. Did you try different pellets too?
Sure did! Pipe is clean and open and so is the OAK. Completely disconnected all my exhaust pipe and cleaned it.
Thanks for that file w dip switch settings! Will verify those asap. And I have not tried different pellets - also an easy variable to test. I’ve just been pulling from what I have on-hand, son will look into getting a different brand locally.
This is not what I was saying. The appearance of gummy residue (most likely creosote) can be caused by incomplete combustion. Incomplete combustion is often caused by not enough, or incorrect airflow.
