Colder here. What's your temp? What ya burnin?

32, first frost of the fall. Cleaned what veggies were left out of the garden yesterday in anticipation of this. Evening fire of oak boards from pallet mill and oak limbs that fell in yard.

 

First of the season

 

BWI fell to 32 this morning for the earliest freeze since 2006. Burned some small holly pieces to cure the new baffle board.

 

I been burning a couple smudges a day for 3 weeks. Going to change soon tho. -5c is forecast for overnight lows all next week. My son and his friends are going to hang 12 quarters of buffalo in my uninsulated shop for at least a week so the cold is welcome. I’m hoping that no bears will rip the doors down.

Biddleman they are cull cows on a fenced hunt ranch. Not really hunting just reasonably priced meat and a road trip. I been burning lodgepole and fir.

 

-8c/17f on this frosty morning. Doug fir and larch on the reload this morning. I guess I should be changing the washer fluid to winter.

 

Fired up the Lopi for the first time this year last night, I got it choochin pretty good with 38 degrees outside.

 

Had out first fires Tues and Wed now we are going back into the 70's till late next week. May need a little heat early morning but the ng boiler can handle that.

 

Had an inch of snow today. Almost gone by now. The valley comfort is choochin some spruce

 

We had fires in the quadrafire three times this week, just not tonight.

We burned box elder, catalpa, ash, and a chunk of honey locust. We got closer to freezing 2 of those nights, I believe Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

 

A fire was not needed today and we may not need a fire until this coming Wednesday. Sunday it is forecast to be close to 80.

 

Last several years I had already burned at least a face cord by now. Have only had one small fire so far this fall. Warmest October I’ve ever seen in my 56 years on this planet. I’m definitely ready for the cold. Wouldn’t bother me a bit to run my stove 9-10 months out of the year.

We got a few inches of snow last night at the casa. Currently 37 degrees out. Burning a nice mixture of Ponderosa Pine and Aspen. 73 degrees in the house.

There’s some good college football on TV today! But it’s also excellent weather to do some splitting…

 

I miss the turning of the Aspens along the front range, but not the eight month winters.
