One of my best firewood connections text me a couple of days ago. He said he has a stack of seasoned firewood about half way up his driveway, if I was interested. Of course I couldn't pass it up. He only lives a few minutes away from me.

His driveway is pretty gnarly, with multiple switchbacks and about 1,000 feet of elevation from the bottom to the top - so bringing my trailer wasn't an option. This was a truck-only job. This wood was truly seasoned and already cut into 18 inch lengths. Mostly Douglas Fir, with some Lodgepole Pine and Rocky Mountain Juniper sprinkled in. It took 3 trips with my truck to get it. I took my boys and we all had a great time. The weather never got over 52 degrees. Absolutely gorgeous fall day.

If I close my eyes I can hear those boys stories flowing out of that camper shell as they're stacking. That's how my boys were. They would work but nothing works harder than their mouth at that age haha

Nice! Sounds like he lives at the end of a mointain logging road.... Does he bushhog mow in the woods? Most of the woods pic, the ground level is so bare..no brush/veg.... Is that natural, or wondering if does he does it for fire purposes?

How old are your boys? Looks like the one in the farmer hat is giving you a lesson.....

Nice. All I ever get is 'hey this tree fell down, you want it for firewood?'. They try to make it a favor to me... cleaning up a mess for them.

So true. My oldest was taking the job very seriously. My youngest was pretending my truck was a lumber train and was making train noises the whole time.

He does live on an old logging road. It’s kind of a pain to get there. He doesn’t brush hog though. We have such a short growing season here that we just don’t get a ton of underbrush growth. Plus, the green grass and such has already gone dormant for the year.

My boys are 5 and 2. They are both FULL of beans. Great kids. I’m very blessed to have them in my life.

We had a great time. Momma was down in the city for the day running errands, so it was a great day for me to get the boys out and do some bonding.

When I was that age i'd make logs out of play-doh and make chain saw noises as I cut them! True story! My older sister loved to sleep in and would complain to mom about the noise I made!

That's a perfect day in my book.

Maybe if you added an adult beverage with a dinner of venison backstrap and later that night "adult time", it would be the ultimate day.
