after years of being told to not use pine for wood stove, i have changed my mind and am now heating 1700 sq,gt, home with pine, its dry 2-3 years, have no problems as of yet, been burning for a month now. only downside i have found is it burns much faster, and i have to tend fire more often, but given the fact that i have plenty of FREE pine on my property it's a good trade off.
Exactly this. Here in the North East we are lucky to have choices. Others don't have the options like we do. Pine is their wood due to availability. I have burned it myself and zero issues. Like any wood , proper seasoning is what does it.
After a trip to Wyoming and realizing that Lodgepole Pine is the only real species available I came to the conclusion that it must be OK to use for firewood. I'm sure there are nuances that differ from hardwood though.
I remember reading years back that the further north you go on this continent the less hardwoods there are. Kinda a cruel joke from up above. Down south = minimal heat needed and lots of hardwoods. Up north = lots of heat needed but mostly conifer available. Why didn't He make hardwoods grow more easily in the colder climates? Lol
I’ve burned primarily Pine my entire life. Burns great. Clean your pipes regularly, as you should anyway. We get COLD winters here and a ton of snow. I’ve never gone to bed cold.
Pine is great firewood. We would cut the trees down in the fall when the sap stopped running. Way less mess.
