    Hi all,
Im installing my new woodstock keystone.

im trying to clean the bricks of old fireplace (previously had a slammer install of a smoke dragon with a plate over whole fireplace)

after messing around a couple hours i got a good chunk of it mostly clean but seems near impossible to get all of the black off.

will it be ok like this? (I willscrub a little more) mostly wondering about smell (figuring if i got everything ican off there wont be much more coming into air daily)

id prefer aesthetic of clean brick but you cant see it much withstove in front.

thinking of trying “paint n peel”
    Or actually painting it.

Most success so far is vinegar water lots of scrubbing and rinsing, I think the rinse does the most

need to finish quickly so hearth stone can go down

We had similar after moving here, (also a slammer, but not creosote chunk buildup in the fireplace, just the chimney = spinning chain to break it off). In the fireplace I tried many things that didn't do very much and the smell turned my stomach. Husband did a coat of black heat wood stove paint for me. It fixed everything including the smell, and looks better than any of little progress I had with different products. Just an IMO from me :)

wildwest thats interesting, so you sprayed stove paint onto brick andit worked? Any kind of primer?
The chimney isnt an issue for me since I’ll have it blocked off with a plate and liner(it’ll still get a good clean of course)

Worth a try. I got a small brass brush, seems to work the best

I've heard paint n peel works great. I've personally used the rutland smoke remover and can confirm it works extremely well also. Use a nylon brush on your drill and follow the instructions.

Yes, we had some paint left from repainting the stove we put in there. No primer, just sprayed it on.
