I have a Travis Industries Flush Wood Plus insert.
I took apart the insert, cleaned the firebox, ran a soot eater up the stainless flue pipe and put everything back together. The only issue I had was trying to get it all back together. The baffle front would not go back on the plate with the plate in the box. So I took everything back out and put the front back on, then reassembled. Now the front three fire bricks that sit on the baffle plate don't have enough room to lay flat/flush. I really don't want to try it a third time. Sorry for the blurry photo. How big of an issue is this if any? If it helps see pages 29 and 31 of the manual https://www.travisindustries.com/docs/100-01259.pdf

A big issue! It needs to go back just like it was before you took it apart.

Be patient, don’t break anything, and keep trying.

With those sticking up like that it it closes off the square area of the exhaust all across the front leading edge of the baffle…
(the area from the front of bricks all the way across the unit that opens the area above the bricks…that opening across the front of the bricks equals the area of the round stove breech exit at the top of the unit going into the chimney and is calculated to equal it for proper operation)
…and by closing it off will very likely allow the stove to draft terribly possibly allowing smoke to enter the room every time you open the door.

Take your time…you can do it…it will go back like it came out. You’re just not holding your mouth right yet.

    Hoytman,
I finally made time this morning to take another look at the insert. You were correct. I was not holding my mouth right. I readjusted my mouth, removed the 3 front baffle bricks and wiggled the front edge piece of the baffle plate a bit. Put one brick back up and wiggled the plate a little more and it slide right in. Repeated for the other side and then the middle brick slipped right in as well. Now it is time for our first fire of the season as it is about 30f outside. Sometimes I just need someone to tell me to do it right. :) Have a good weekend.

I cleaned it again today. The hardest part by far is taking it apart and putting it back together. The Sooteater part is easy. However this time it was easier than last time and everything went back in the first try. I bet next time will be a bit easier yet.
