I know I don't make it on the forum so often, you can blame Backwoods Savage for keeping me so busy!
But we did pick a few apples from my tree in between raindrops, here are some, all but one basket is going home with him to Deer Haven. The half-bushel box and fancy small basket will be going to friends today.
Still got a boatload to pick, and it is only one tree. apples.jpg apples2.jpg

Hey Firebroad , Great looking apples. Wish I had a spare moment to pick some here and put the grinder and press to work. I love rough cider and made hard cider for several years that was highly regarded by family and friends (especially after they had had several bottles). I have not heard of Liberty apples and will have to look them up. :tip:to both you folks!

I wouldn't mind making some cider this fall but there is too much going on here to do it this year. The cider press has sat idle for too long.

    Great looking apples!

Backyard trees were a bust this year. Loaded with blooms and then we got 2 nights into the 20s that killed almost all of them off. Got 3 Jonagolds though!!

Went to the U pick orchard this weekend. Finishing up making applesauce and dehydrating a bunch.

Timely post Dave. I just picked the last today and took to a local produce mart that buys all the ones I don't sell myself.

I didn't take many pics this year. Yield on Honeycrisp and Granny Smith was down about 70% because of conditions from last year. The rest did pretty good, Cortland, Zestar, and Macs.

This was early season, the cooler can't get another bag in it right now, holds 64 pecks, (16 bushels) DSCF0004.JPG DSCF0001.JPG DSCF0002.JPG DSCF0006.JPG DSCF0013.JPG DSCF0014.JPG

Those all look great. I'm jealous. I'm just some backyard schmoe that hasn't figured out how to properly care for mine. Do you guys spray or have a maintenance routine for bugs, pests, and disease?

All of mine that bloomed got fireblight this year.

Sorry to hear about the fireblight, that is real BAD.

Copper sprays are incorporated very early season (for fire blight)along with dormant oil. If fireblight does occur, streptomycin is the curative product.

My trees on the average get 14 sprays a season.
