Right! Not even worth gathering them for making omelets. Even more difficult is removing the shell after they are hard boiled!

 

We had a hummer nest close to the house one year and IIRC, it was about the size of a half dollar.

 

Last day in Las Vegas have a test and a 20 minute presentation to do still. Learned a lot this week. But I'm ready to get back home

Reading up on them, they say the nest is built to expand as the young need more room. Apparently they use a lot of spider silk to accomplish that. I wonder if the ones you found started out thimble sized and you found expanded ones? IDK, I'm just spouting off what I read from professional bird sites.

House originally belonged to a woman who died before I was born, but I know her grandson and his son (who is very creative with stuff that most people would call garbage, so I'm offering him some of these original pieces of his great grandmother's old house). I'll likely keep at least one or two myself to hang up in my workshop as souvenirs.

Got a lot of work done today, got most of the kitchen put back together. The way everything was connected, I'll have to wait till the new joists are into the living room to finish the last bit of the kitchen. Living room is stripped right to the old joists, which involved removing the vinyl, two criss-crossing layers of 1x3 strapping, and a bunch of old brittle wooden slats that I'm figuring was the finished ceiling at some point.
Won't be sorry to take the old joists out next weekend. They've been there a long time, but the new ones are a huge improvement. I put a cutoff from a new joist next to an old one for comparison. What a difference.

I had s live trap in my pole barn with no bait in it and I found a possum in it. I let it go and watched it wattle away into the woods. I didn't want to kill it cause they eat ticks.

 

Mom is doing very well physically. She, and we, are all very fortunate for this. The home health aides are able to help her get a shower every morning and get dressed. Up and down mentally. But for 90 & 9 months she is doing very well. Playing cards, doing word search puzzles, back to Mass at Church almost daily, etc.

 

Good to hear she is able to get out and about.

It's in a very secluded place to do much of anything with. Engineers are not a mechanics friend.

She's about that mileage to possibly expect it dying, so I'm not trusting anything like that too much. To the garage she goes I guess.
