For sure, "The Occupational Safety and Health Administration calls logging "the most dangerous occupation in the United States." The fatal injury rate for loggers is more than 30 times the rate for all U.S. workers. Tree-care workers also encounter hazards at rates much higher than the average employee."

Not minimizing the danger of logging but stats on an even more dangerous job!

The POTUS has a much higher risk. 4 of 46 have been assassinated while serving 8.7% vs 0.11% of loggers who died while logging.

Additionally one was shot while serving and survived and two were shot (post presidency) and survived.

Teddy Roosevelt delivered an 86 minute campaign speech after being shot in the chest he correctly concluding since he was not coughing up blood the bullet did not penetrate his lungs, he was not in any immediate danger!

The fastest I ever move anymore is just after pulling my saw out of a backcut of any tree that I am at all suspicious of. (remember to look back and make sure you're running in the right direction) People with me when I do it seem to get a chuckle out of it. Not sure if they understand completely, the stakes. The loggers I watch on video that I respect and understand are extremely experienced always bail from the stump. One doesn't bother to take the saw most times, gets tossed down. He's older than me and has cut untold numbers of trees compared to me, so I assume it's a good strategy.

Very tragic. Wonder if he was inexperienced being a landscaper vs. being a tree guy/arborist?

I always try to cut on the uphill side. If I'm wary of a log rolling I'll chock it.

Years back I cut up a triple oak blow over in my woods. It was on a steep rocky slope. The last tree was going to roll and I cut on the uphill side. Quite the sight when it let go tumbling down.

    Work safe out there FHC!

That's at least 2 people killed this year, and I know of multiple "near misses" in CT alone

See posts #11, 12 & 13 above. Funny how you had mentioned about my meeting a lot of FHC members in that recent thread. Scarps is one I haven't. Hinting at a future GTG.
