A guy about 10 minutes from me is doing fire mitigation on his property. He cuts the rounds to a manageable size and stacks them by the road with his tractor. He invited me to come take as much as I wanted. I have already grabbed 2 trailer loads in the last 3 days. I don't really need it, as I already have so much firewood, but I just can't pass it up. He has various types of trees in the stacks. I'm picky, so I'm only taking what had been standing dead Lodgepole Pine and Douglas Fir. Aaaand maybe a smidge of large diameter Aspen. I'll keep going back for more as time permits.

This is what's left of the pile of logs AFTER I've taken two loads. The pic doesn't do it justice. It's a massive pile. Easily 20 cords.

This was the first trailer load.

My youngest son is helping me with firewood now, while big brother is in school!

The new firewood, waiting to be processed on my property.

Nice size logs that you can cut to your desired length. Cute helper!

Great pics (especially your helper) and great score! Heck with it being so close if you have the room why not make the most of the opportunity!

Two great firewoods! I can smell the Lodgepole from here. When my boys were that age they would help me load the wheelbarrow with splits. I would then take the wheelbarrow to the stacks to unload. The boys got a wheelbarrow ride back to the splitter. Good times!

 :lol:You bring up a great point, my friend! Rarely have I ever said I don’t need firewood. I was just exhausted from carrying 8 foot logs to the trailer. Now that I’ve had a few hours to rest, I realize the error in my ways. I’m already thinking about how I can make the time to swing by for another load tomorrow!

I know the feeling all too well. I'm jelly of all the storage you have! I only looked quick at the pics and only stopped at the one of your son. Once I went back I was like holy cow that's a lot of wood.

If you have more than you need for personal use, get into the firewood business. CO has a great 529B program for funding college with your proceeds.

I would take as much as I could and then some more!
Just think with all that is available and being so close to you how much time it will save you in the future. It's cheap. So stack it high and deep!
