Took down a dead ash yesterday. Took 2 hours to winch it over and reset the winch several times to get it remotely close to the truck. Sorry no pics of that process as I was concentrating on getting done safely. My helper is always glad to play with farwood no matter what though.
Nice! I cut one up about that size at work the other day...it was already down though...I just used the backhoe to grab it out of the brush and set it next to the driveway for cutting...split it yesterday, made about 1/5-1/6 cord I'd say.
Yeah, I could have drove up to the shop and got my 962G and made quick work of it but I got a personal policy of not using mine site equipment after hours. To many jerks around that would snivel about it if you know what I mean.
I have a capstan winch and speed would not be in its vocabulary if it had one. Whenever I have a slow thankless firewood job I try to think of the cold bitter nasty Winter day that I'll be appreciating the time that I spent.
Fortunately a lot of the trees I get from work are down (or need to come down) and dropping/cleaning up is just part of the job...heavy equipment included I would have to share, but the rest of em are too lazy to burn wood (all talk, no action) oh well, more for me! The boss does burn wood, but he lives in woods with plenty of down, or need to come down trees, so...
Slow but steady got it done. Sometimes the prep work takes longer than the actual harvest. Good you got it done safe. Those look nice and solid too.
