I'd put that on a display shelf somewhere Sounds like you can cut the face of it. How easy would it be to etch the FHC logo on it? If it were to not turn out well, just slice off the face.
It's oak, so the longer you season it the better it gets. I have a lot of petrified wood -- hundreds of pounds from all over the world. It is very rare to find a piece that looks just like real wood -- both the detail and the color. The crazy thing is that the color of petrified wood from minerals in the ground, probably iron in this case. The does not come from the color of the original wood in any way. In this case, the rock just so happened to be a golden tan color that looks like lacquered oak. I did cut the end with a diamond saw which is why it has a clean, flat face. I like your idea. Maybe this winter when I have more time I'll make a petrified wood FHC trophy or something, and then think of a contest so I can give it away to someone. I'll think about that one...
You've got a museum with petrified wood in CT? Very cool. Is it a natural history museum, connected to a university, or something else?
Peabody museum in New Haven...one city South of me. Her and I went there the same time I joined FHC in Feb 2019. Petrified Wood
