Not a good place for a firewood hoarder. Above the tree line and the trees at the are all pine. I doubt I'd be a firewood person if I lived near here Facebook_creation_85904AF3-3D19-462B-A39B-37F7E24E98E5.jpeg

Couple years ago wife and I crested Mt Mitchell on motorcycle, tallest peak east of the Mississippi, a bit over 6,500ft. You guys are almost twice that!

    Great Pic Dave!
I've been over Rabbits ear pass in the middle of winter @ 9500 ft iirc.
It was dark and snowing, let's say I was somewhat concerned.
I would have liked to seen it in daylight.

Great picture. You’d likely be a firewood person wherever you happen to be planted. I lived in the high plains of Eastern Wyoming for a few yrs and cut Ponderosa Pine for a catalytic insert. It heated the main level of our house just fine. It’s just in my blood.

It scared my wife driving up in daylight there wasn't alot of room off the passengers side on some sections of the road. If it was at night I would had to change my undies

On motorcycle would be a fun ride. There was at least a 20* temperature difference in the 8 miles from the interstate to the top. We actually saw a bicyclist crest the top while up there

Great shot. The camera doesn't do it any justice.
My wife had the same fear driving up there.

    Cool pic.

Ive hiked Mt Washington in NH. Hard to believe you're more than twice the elevation there.

Did you notice any difference in the air Dave? Hard to breath etc?

    Altitude sickness is real.

Loveland(I70) and Monarch (US50) passes always did a number on me. I’d have to get below 7000 ft before feeling better.

About 20 years ago I rode my road bicycle from Spartanburg, SC to top of Mt. Mitchell. Prior two years before making the entire route I ended up a few miles short of the finish. Never went back for another go at:salute: Highest point east of the Mississippi River.

Cash Larue is not terribly far from there as the crow flies.
I’ve been across there multiple times myself, I love it.

I'm getting winded quicker and my gut has been gurgling like I just ate Mexican for three days.
Wife had pneumonia 18 months ago since then she gets winded easily anyway but this is doing a job on her. I'm letting her set the pace because of that.

    I’m a cardiac patient….

so my body reacts entirely differently to altitudes now.

if I do a trip for my elk like I want, it’s 4-6 days for me to make the elevation adjustments going up.
