Has a minty smell. Kind of heavy.

Looks like black birch to me (definitely not gray) and the smell and weight description fits... It's strange how the bark isn't more fissured for that size tree though.

Black birch for sure. Great BTU’s. Maybe a faster growing one with the smooth bark

Im saying black birch too. Under rated firewood IMO.

First time I’ve ever had it. This came in on a tractor trailer from about an hour north of me. I don’t think we have them in my immediate area.

What other types of wood does it compare to when it comes to seasoning time?

Only suggested gray because the log guy said that’s what it may be.

    Dries on the faster side.
Rots almost as fast if it is damp.
Keep it dry and it’ll treat you good.
    BTU’s are up there.

I more or less put sugar maple, beech and black birch in the same category in terms of drying time and btu rating although i think BB is the highest.

Its great stuff. Ill take it when I can if easy and straight. Try to keep splits on the outside of your windrows. It does like to grow stuff and will punk fast.

Is say 1.5 yrs drying it should be great. But in a pinch, a year might be fine unless split real big.
