LOL [URL unfurl="true"]https://www.harborfreight.com/high-precision-metal-detector-set-58892.html[/URL] Some name brands are much higher price $500 - $600 but with coupon this was $114.95 and has very similar features plus the videos and reviews looked very good! Not much to assemble so it was quick and easy. Did some tests with coins and metal inside then just went to the back yard. I did not do a thorough pass just a random walk around and within 5 mins I found a metal bracket and a nail! Once you locate something and do the first dig, it has a pinpoint feature so you can keep digging in the right place! That is the best feature and the chart for the initial find is very helpful! Anyone else try it with good luck?? P.S. Approximately 50 years ago I had a Radio Shack Treasure Finder made in the 70s and it being new technology at the time, it was primitive and I never got it to find something! So after 50 years I did find something that works and recommend this Gordon! LOL Comes with a nice carry case and headphones too! This vintage 50 y/o finder can still be purchased on the web for $120.00!
that can be a fascinating hobby. I watched a video where they checked over an old homestead. they found nothing of money value but instead found pieces of history of the homestead.
Looks very similar to the Garrett I have. Good way to get some fresh air , and you might get a bonus. You never know what is out there.
Why not? It can be a fun hobby and gets you off the couch or away from the computer. I used one in high school made from a transistor radio (an emerging technology then), a piece of metal tubing bent in a circle full of coiled wires and a broomstick for a handle. It was what they call a beat frequency detector and the plans were from the magazine Popular Electronics. You would use the earbud from the radio and tune it till you had a solid tone. When a piece of metal entered the magnetic field generated by the coiled wires, the tone would go up or down markedly. Found lots of cool stuff. When I retired, I decided to buy a real detector and give it a try again. My Wife was absolutely devastated. "My God, my husband is a closet Red Neck and he is coming out"! "Please don't let the neighbors see you doing this"! One day I found a 7/8 carat diamond ring in a platinum setting. I had just cleaned it at the kitchen sink and set it aside when she came in and said "that's pretty, what is it"? I told her and she put it on and said "it fits perfectly"! "I guess you can metal detect all you want". She went upstairs with the ring on and I haven't seen it since!
